Hi Jimmyn4
Nice photo Jimmy, but gotta by honest with you, it did not "Wow" me.
You certainly did a nice job, I like the black background, the leading line is fine, but that "switch" stopped me in the middle of things and made me look around. I wonder if you'd had a cord with no switch at all, just a cord running straight up to the lamp, what a difference it would make for you?
When I got to the Lamp, I didn't know what happened, if the shade was crooked or the lamp was off balance or what? And then my attention was taken to the bulb, a bit bright? Perhaps a smaller wattage bulb so it would not show through the shade and wash down onto the lamp?
Okay. The idea was a good one and you were meeting the Challenge but I think you were rushing yourself a wee bit. Slow down and take a look next time, move things around, take a few more shots, and good luck next time.
Sincerely,
Silver Fox. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

Hello Geocide!
It's an interesting idea for the Challenge.
I would assume that you've used two types of lighting here, one from the left and a blue one from the top? or is it just a blue tint done afterwards?
The keyboard comes in nice and clear and focused but the Egg seems kind of fuzzy to my eyes. Is that because of your image resizing? And I like the way the background fades out to the darkness. . .
The finishing score of 4.9 on your photo may be telling you something as I don't really see anything technically wrong, so it must just be an issue of visual impact that held your score down, others did not see what you saw. . .
All in all, it's nicely done, so keep trying! | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 03/10/2003 03:57:22 PM | Spring Flower in Woodsby kandyjComment: Greetings from Critique Club: Silver Fox
I'm doing a critique on the flower, not on the Leading Lines Challenge as I do not believe that this fit the challenge.
Personally, I love flower photos and the more natural, the better, such as the one you've captured here. I think perhaps that you should have looked for one that you could have "shot" from above rather from below, as the whiteness of the sky has sort of blown the flower away from the person looking at it.
You've captured the yellow nicely, but I would like to have seen some of the greenery around it at the same time.
The focus and lighting are good, but I notice that you've cropped off a piece of the top petal, was this on purpose? or were you just going to large with it?
What you have to remember sometimes is that BIGGER is not always best, sometimes keeping your photograph smaller and bringing in some of the background would enhance your flower with some visual impact, but only you can decide what is best. There really isn't an aspect of this flower photo that makes it stand out and shout "look at me", but at least you tried, and you entered it in the Challenge, so please keep on shooting and keep on trying your best to become better at what you're doing. . .
Sincerely, Silver Fox | Photographer found comment helpful. |

My first impression was how grotesque, however, it's a very interesting idea that you've come up with.
It does seem a bit out of focus and the lighting is kind of poor, giving it an overall blue tinge, making it difficult to decide where to focus my eyes.
I'm really glas you didn't have any of the egg leaking out. . .
Your work was creative and certainly unique, so keep at it. . | Photographer found comment helpful. |

You\'ve even been able to capture the ageing on the top of the black lamp and that\'s really great the way you captured that black shoe and pant leg going up the steps! | Photographer found comment helpful. |

That blue sky is lovely against the roof tops and the blue box on the concrete step really stands out. Nice job. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
