This is a cool idea - I would suggest adding more contrast, and perhaps playing around with the colors to make them more vivid. Personally, I might even do a little burning around the edges to see if it created and interesting effect... neat shot though! I like the composition.

INCREDIBLE. The atmosphere is intense and powerful here, and yes, bitter. Pinched almost. I tried to eat an acorn once. Uncooked, they taste awful. It was so bitter it formed a sort of numbing paste over my tongue, making the gravely chips of nut even worse. :) I was reminded of that acorn when I looked at your picture and read the title - only not as wildly awful a feeling. Awesome, awesome image.
