Her Stolen Stepsby CNovackComment: You asked for comments about why this entry scored poorly. I gave it a 5 which I think is generous. I don't think viewers should blame themselves for not noticing the tiny star of David, especially since its six points are hard to distinquish from the debris beneath it. Because I now know what the shadow spells, it seems obvious, but when I first saw this photo I couldn't decipher it. The photo seems cluttered and is grainy and hard on the eyes. My personal dislike of the use of certain frame techniques comes and goes; for some reason I don't like it here. I think it's a terrific idea for a photo and I have no objection to the staging of it, I just didn't "get" it visually and like a visitor to a gallery I often don't read the title of an artwork unless I feel compelled to, so calling it "Holocaust" might have been lost on me, I'm afraid! |

Snow Shoesby Bear_MusicComment: I really like the sepia tone, though I'd prefer you hadn't applied it to the frame as well. |

Tacoma Narrows Bridgeby GeneralEComment: Not a bad exposure, especially considering you presumably shot this through window glass. If the original gives you room to crop without losing the base of the bridge supports, I might try adding a little distortion correction so that all the vertical lines are parallel (straight up and down).

Homeless Streetsby rubentinajero7Comment: I thought this was one of the best shots in the challenge: the dirty, weathered hand is sharp, and although blurred the camo clothing, long hair and red face point to a life on the street. You managed to get a blue sky, too.
The homeless as subject for photography is such a cliché that even saying it's cliché is cliché. Here his anonymity is respected. His angry gesture is the perfect response to someone pointing a camera at him, but softened by the smile, which makes this picture kind of a joy. |

floatingrosedpcby KristinaGComment: I find this outtake beautiful, too, though I think to score successfully (if you'll pardon the generalization) the rose would need to be sharper against that dreamy background. |
