Reflecting on Winterby
mpetersComment: ::: Greetings from Critique Club :::
Hi, as requested, here is an indepth critique of your submission.
First Impression - the most important one:
Beautiful photography, definitely worthy of the Best of 2006 challenge.
Composition:
I see the rule of thirds all over the place here. This is a very strong composition with points of interest all around the photo. It's like you could walk, well perhaps swim, into the scene and investigate.
Technical (Colour, focus, and light):
Focus - sharp, very nice.
Colour - your saturations are wonderful in the sky, but the landscape could use a bit more saturation.
Light - I can't find a region in this photo that I consider poorly exposed. There is detail everywhere.
To grow its vote?:
I don't like the frame, but that's just personal taste and probably doesn't affect your vote much. But, I really don't know how you could have improved this shot. Perhaps, more dramatic lighting? Landscapes aren't my strong point, so anything from me would be just guessing on working on bettering this photo.
Summary:
I think it is a wonderful photo, would do well in the postcard biz. I'm a little suprised it didn't score higher. Was a tough challenge though.
Hope to see more from you soon,
Leroy
