Trees

Trees

Comment:
Leading lines or curves generally have two purposes. One is to lead the viewer into the scene. The other is to lead you toward the main subject. It is most effective if they come in from the lower left because that is the natural direction humans visually scan a picture so easiest to pick up.

Trees make great leading lines but yours seems to lead the viewer back out of the image again. The trees themselves appear to be the main subject.

Creative example of leading lines. The support beams and rope lead you toward your model. The rope crossing over her hand is a distraction and it would be better if the other hand were visible curling around the horizontal beam.

The leading lines in this image are subtle and unconventional but effective.

Feeling Proud

Comment:
Generally speaking lighting, use of shallow depth of field and color OK. General image quality is average.

Many reviewers will not find a strong connection of your subject with the challenge topic and will vote it lower because of it. They will feel this is not really a fantasy world, but rather nothing more than an image of non-western culture. The viewer is not engaged to wonder what the subject is doing or why he is holding tree branches.

But most of the issues with this image are of a technical nature...

The picture is taken from a 'snapshot' perspective. Different perspectives like ground level looking up, some other extreme angle or while in motion would add more visual interest to the composition. This perspective is closer to what you might expect to see in a photo album and not a fantasy challenge.

Though not overexposed greatly you might consider burning in some detail on your subject's bright white garments. This is particularly true of the feet and upper left shoulder where detail is lost. Judicious burning on the rest of the garment would give it depth and added eye appeal.

The tree on the left of your subject should be positioned further to the left. Having the edge just touching your subject draws the eye away from him and acts as a major distraction. It is made worse by the fact there are digital 'jaggies' clearly visible on the sharp border between tree and garment. Another distraction is the bright white area on the lower left side of the tree.

Even considering the fact that your subject is Japanese it will appear to most reviewers that his eyes are closed and they and probably vote it lower.

Interesting fantasy concept. Can't tell if Sadie is good or evil but she is definitely different. Colors are bright and contrast excellent. The zoom focus tecnique seems to work pretty well. Your subject is nicely highlighted n the centere of the frame.

Generally speaking DPC voters like natural color more than surreal ones even in a challenge of this nature. That make hurt this image in voting.

The nature of this image makes it difficult to assess from a technical standpoint.

Night cityscapes with a water foreground are always a nice idea. The bright area above the highest building is a cool idea. Good assortment of colors.

Hard to say if voters will feel this meets the challenge all that well or not.

Technically you might have considered zooming in on the buildings more to reduce the amount of sky that adds little to the composition and have the buidings much larger and with better definition. Conditions did not allow it but if the water would have been smoother to have a better reflection of the city it would have had added interest for viewers.

Deep blue color of eye works with a sepia. Good composition and shallow depth of field works well.

Some folks may think you are just using this as an excuse to put up a horse picture and vote it lower... the cades!

Nice image, good job.

Comment:
Interesting concept and the deep purple and greens that are not overdone works well.

The background should have noise reduction applied to it and there are a number of hots spots reflected in the bubbles that are distracting. You might consider cloning out the tiny bubbles on the right that have no real definition and do not add much to the composition.

Comment:
Unique idea put together well in the photograph. Gives the viewer plenty to relate to and think about even if they are not into rock and rol music. Composed well.

The area around the bealtline of the guitarist is slightly overexposed and should be darken just a little bit.

Nice idea that should be favored by reviewers.
