Peace lilyby RobroComment: Lovely and soft image. I would have 10'ed it except for the harsh light at the top of the flower. The lighting is a little too extreme between the top of the flower and the bottom - 9. |

lip colorby shutterflyComment: Critique Club:
Hi Wendy. You got an original shot for the color challenge here, I don't have that kind of imagination! Is this all your lipstick?
You've set this one up well. Contrary to what has been commented below I think the white background works well. I don't think a black background would have brought those colors out as vividly as here. The DOF also works. I like the way the lips sticks dissolve into bluriness in the blackground, awesome effect. The colors are good, the composition also, you've left enough breathing space at the front :-)
The border is a bit exaggerated though. I think the red clashes too much with the image colors. I find a neutral color or black may have been better here. Also it is a little disturbing (for me anyway, but then again I always look for little small things, he he) that the lipsticks are not parallel and evenly distanced.
But overall, a very good image which I liked immediately.
Happy Easter.

Pink Azaleaby Woody102Comment: Critique Club:
Hi Woody. Congratulations on your first DPC submission. Just a question about your aperture, I guess that was a typo: f/405?
You have chosen a common subject for the color challenge, flowers. I guess flowers depict color more than anything else, and your azalea does just that.
The main subject is a little out of focus however, the leaves immediately behind the flower have become the main focal point here. The shallow DOF is okay as the leaves right out the back have been blurred out. Had the focus been on the flower itself, the leaves immediately behind the flower would also have been blurred.
The lighting is also a little distracting, especially with those harsh shadows running along the surface of the flower.
All in all a simple photo which radiates a lovely shade of pink. No "wow" effect but a good start in DPC. I look forward to seeing more of your work in the near future.

Red Hot Dreamby GraciousComment: Clever idea. However the main focal point is on the glass jar closest to the camera. Everything else is unsharp. A smaller aperture may have taken care of this. |

Streetlight, Man & Gumballsby GotchyaComment: Ohhh the reflection in the bottom right corner doesn't do this image any justice, and your reflection can be seen too. I would have gone more to the left so that the blue in the top right corner wasn't visible, or maybe cropped it out completely. Otherwise very colorful. |
