I think this would have done better in the pet challenge. To me this doesn't really say Peek-a-boo. Looks like he is saying Not another picture. lol

Whoo hooo look at you pulling 78 out of 139. Congrats man... OH and a new PB. Double congrats... Try using a lower ISO and a longer shutter time to remove image grain. usually ISO 100 or 200 is a good start.

I think that if you would have edited this it would have been a top 10. Still good job though.

Hey man thanks. I knew it was a good image the second I saw it. At first I thought you would get pinged for the little light that was coming through at the bottom but I don't think anyone even saw it. 19th is AMAZING for a FS. I can think of 436 other people that would LOVE to be in 19th place???

I think the only reason why you got 19th was because there isn't really any action going on here. No real WOW factor ya know. Don't get me wrong it's a PERFECT picture IMO but it's a simple picture. I guess the average of everyone that voted thought that the other 18 images were more interesting. Only real problem is there can only be one 1st in every challenge. Sorry you didn't get it but honestly it's an amazing picture. You should add it to DPC Prints. I think you could sell this one.

Well let me say that you defiantly have your own style of editing. please please please make sure that you read the rules carefully and don't get busted doing this in basic editing. Oh yeah and welcome to the site. You are going to do very well here and should ribbon in no time at all. Watch the text... 99.9% of the time text can not be added to pictures. I know you didn't do it here but I have see people add text and not know so I'm just warning ya.

Can't wait to see what other images you can produce.

Greetings from the Critique Club :)

First let me say congratulations on a new personal best. I have to say that you are doing extremely well for someone that has entered only 5 challenges. At the rate you̢۪re going you will be getting high 6̢۪s and 7̢۪s very soon.

First impressions:
When I first say this picture I thought that the color was dull and needed some contrast. Then I saw the background and thought there was too much going on.

The Fix:
Here is my suggestion as how to make this photo a bit more interesting. Now I̢۪m not sure what your original really looks like but from what you have so far (the picture you uploaded) you should have boosted the contrast up to somewhere around +34 and lowered the brightness to about -6.

Looking at you̢۪re camera settings I would say that you used indoor lighting probably from a ceiling light or desk lamp which is fine. You did the right thing by setting the ISO to 800 and choosing a good shutter speed. What you might try to do is shoot your pictures more during the day when the sun is strong and lighting is good. Let the light poor through the windows but watch out for harsh, hard lighting hitting your subject. If you do this method of lighting make sure that you soften up the light by using something like a white sheet.

If you would like more information on lighting just shoot me a PM and let me know.

As far as your BG goes, I would suggest using something dull that makes the subject really pop and stand out. Now I understand that it̢۪s hard sometimes to get the shot you want in real life situations and trying to set up the same shot in a fixed situation. Here̢۪s what you do. If it̢۪s just a picture for something besides a basic editing challenge on DPC, the sky is the limit. You could completely remove the background, blur the background to bring more focus to your subject, you could even distort the background. If the picture is for a challenge here on DPC and its advanced editing you might want to try a levels adjustment to darken or lighten the BG again allowing more focus on your main subject.

In any case I have to say that you are doing fairly well. Keep up the good work and as always If you have any questions or comments feel free to PM me anytime.
