Snow At Lastby CapeSailComment: Great lines, and I love how you captured the snow falling. I thinkt this type of shot is a good candidate for the b/w or sepia treatment, though it almost naturally looks that way. Beautiful shot! :) |

On Frozen Pondby CapeSailComment: Nice... again, using the rule of thirds works so much better than if you had centered these two. The shallow dof is very nice, and lets the colors and variations in the ice blend nicely and then drift off into the grasses. The tree branches to the left make a nice sort of natural frame too. That one bird down in the lower left corner bugs me though... he should have moved out of your way! :P Nice job on this one! |

The Cannonby CapeSailComment: This is nice.. I like the dof and how you used the rule of thirds in this one, but your eye follows the barrel of the cannon out. The textures in the metal are great and show a bit of a history with all the nicks and rust. The processing makes this look older and rustic, which is perfect for the subject. The one thing I find really interesting about this one is how the brick wall looks almost like a drawing. Very nice. |

Reflections on Iceby CapeSailComment: I think I can see what you were going for here with the interesting ice textures and the reflections, but it's just not a composition that really grabs your attention. I think that might be part of the reason that it's difficult to determine whether this should be in color, b/w or sepia. As it stands, I think it could use a bump in levels to darken things up a bit. It might even be that it needs a slightly different hue as far as the color goes to really make it stand out. Maybe shades of blues to go with the cold wintery feel, or even just a slightly more red or yellow tone? Just throwing out some ideas. |

Feeling Good ....by manishComment: Since you posted the thread about needing more comments, I came to find your last shot that was in the range you mentioned.
I like the unique composition here with the mirror only taking up a part of the shot and not being a full mirror. The expression on your model is very warming and definately makes me smile. The 'softness' in the mirror is nice, but the model herself seems to be just blurry, which I find distracting. It's especially noticable down by her hand/chin, and the glint of that ring draws your eye into that area. One other thing I find bothers me is the shadow from her hair that falls onto the reflection, making a large triangle on her forehead. |

Hesitant Winter Riderby neophyteComment: Poughkeepsie? Nice to see a (sort of) local shot from the team. I like the processing on this one.. nice conversion to b/w with a nice range of tones. From looking at the scores, it looks like folks found this to just be probably an average scene with nothing jumping out at them to hold their interest, but it was a good photo technically... so they vote a 5 and move on. The one comment you did get clearly took the time to look at the details... those are some unique mirrors, I'm glad he pointed those out! :) |
