Still Snarky

Hey, it's Snarky! I think I like this one better than his first appearance. He seems to have accomplished such a great task by climbing to the top of the mushroom! The lines from the mushrooms are cool too. The one thing that I find odd is the coloring... it's almost like it was taken in the office under the fluorescent lighting or something?

What a great shot... he's not the prettiest little guy, but I love the details and lines. I think the color scheme works nicely too. Only change I would make would be to get rid of those little dirt specks at the bottom. Snarky did a nice job posing for you, it was nice of you to let him go when you were done.

I like this one. I have no idea what it is, but I like it anyway! Macro, but it has the illusion of being much bigger. Interesting lighting too the way it hits the sides differently showing off the textures and the outline of the mystery object. The left edge of the object looks a little jagged, probably just from resizing. Nice!

These are great Karen! It shows the progression of your style too since this last grouping seems to showcase more b/w's and hdr shots. Thanks for sharing these!

This shot clearly depicts morning, and I love the news article (though I would guess many vote too quickly to notice those small details). Something about the whole setup seems funny though once I start thinking about it. Fork seems used, but the only food eaten is the toast, and the foods all seem so spread out on the plate. And the coffee seems too untouched (isn't that usually the first thing people go for?), and set too close to the eater. But overall, a cute shot.. I'd love to read that entire article! :P

Greetings from the Critique Club!

First Impression: Cute kitty with a natural pose (which can be hard), nice warm colors, nice contrast without blowing out any of the highlights. Lacks that little extra something to take it to the next level.

Looking Closer: It looks like you tried to use the rule of thirds with your placement of the cat, but somehow the feel that you usually get with that just isn't there. Something feels off... perhaps the corner of the box right in front, also in sharp focus, that divides the shot? Maybe if you had taken this from a higher angle, or used a shallower dof? Perhaps playing with a tighter crop could have been an option. Also, I'm noticing the crinkles and nicks in the box.. not sure if that's good or bad, just something that caught my attention.

Overall: Not a bad score, but I think it lacked that little extra something to really catch the voters attention. Looks like many voters gave it a 6, saying it was nicely done and better than average. Comments seem to indicate the same.

Hope this has been helpful. Please feel free to PM me with any questions about this critique.

I like the unique perspective here with the hat design filling in the space around her face.

Ah, what a risk putting a cute kid shot into a challenge! But, I think you've managed to capture something more unique here that will hopefully appeal to the mass of voters. You've captured a moment of a story, and I can just picture what else is going on in the room. She looks happy, and that makes me smile, too. The shallow dof is great, though I wish just a little deeper to get both eyes in sharp focus. Looks like a fun moment, and a great memory for the family.

I'll admit, I'm not a fan of all these monkey and gorilla shots that everyone enters in challenges. I don't know why. I usually get to them, give a little grunt, try to vote on the technical merits of the shot and move along. But something about this one actually made me smile and want to explore the shot a bit more. Perhaps the symmetry in their hands and facial expressions, or the gaze straight into the camera from the elder? I'm not sure, but this is probably one of the higher scores I've given to a shot of these subjects. Nicely captured.

Great symmetry and contrast here, and such a unique idea and composition. I could get nitpicky about the elbow being cut off, the one set of clasped hands that is over the one shoulder, or the two girls wearing bracelets, but it just doesn't seem to matter since it doesn't really take away from the whole shot. One of the few shots that I have gotten sucked into exploring so much, especially as these small resolutions for the web. One of my top picks for the challenge. Well done! :)
