A pet. A friend. A teacher.by silverfeatherComment: I think a portrait should show enough of the animal to know something about him/her. I think this is a horse, but there is no clue as to what makes him/her a pet, friend, and teacher. |

Beach Retrieverby DorsetgirlComment: I would like this with softer lighting (earlier or later in the day) and more focus on the eyes. |

Untitledby rtscribbs02Comment: To me, a portrait includes controlling the lighting and setting. This does not mean outdoor shots cannot be portraits, but that you must wait for the right light or set up some lighting, and make sure the background enhances the subject. I do not feel this was accomplished in this shot. |

Yes?by RainMotorsportsComment: To me, a portrait has controlled lighting and setting. You need some lighting to bring out the eyes, and the background is too cluttered. |

Virgil in Loveby KnightmovesComment: To me, a portrait has controlled lighting and setting. This shot looks too green, there is no detail in the face of the dog, and I don't think the door makes a good background. This shot tells a story, but it is not a portrait IMO. |

Oshieby PBearComment: To me, a portrait should have a solid background or should enhance the subject. The blue blanket, fence and grill do not add anything, IMO. |

Princess Paw Pawby pupparazzoComment: To me, a portrait has controlled lighting and setting. The light seems a little harsh, and too blue. The setting seems to be a cage, which seems kind of odd for a portrait. |

Chappy IIby TerminatorComment: Chappy blends in too much with the background. Perhaps different lighting or selective desat would help. |

Are you 1337?by hsolakidisComment: This just does not work as a pet portrait for me. I would like to see the eyes, and since the whole dog was included, his body. I also prefer either a solid background or a setting that enhances the subject. The pillow doesn't do either IMO. |
