I really like this, and the composition works really well for the subject matter, which is nice and bright and shiny! The background is a perfect use of depth of field. I'm having trouble, though, finding the focused point, though, as it all looks slightly soft to me. I might try a slightly higher f-stop next time (as it's a setup and you can probably do a longer exposure if you need to), but then you'll need to watch making the background too busy as it comes into focus, too. Hmmm, not sure I like my idea anymore . . . :\

The crop is a bit centered, but really it works with the image as a whole, the reflections, and the lighting. I love the colors and the shades you've managed to get. Nicely shot!

Definitely not something to be nervous about; first off, it's a delightful image; second, as Jeanne said, no grading here, no dnmc, no nastiness. If you want more in-depth critiques (by the way, I don't have any here, I like it as is), just ask, people are willing to give them; but if you're happy to have people just appreciate your images, then post, but don't be nervous! :)

Day 1 - Just a Shell

Wonderful use of lighting here; I might have composed it with the center of the shell end pattern thing down and to the left, with the negative space up and to the right, but I have no idea why (or whether it would be any "better" that way).

Awesome shot; I wonder if moving it just a tiny bit left would strengthen it even more (though I'm not sure it would, honestly; the centered composition works pretty well here given the precise use of DoF). I love this. Fav'd.

I'm not a big applied textures fan, myself (probably because I never did anything like that when using film, so for me it often seems too much like digital "playing"); here, the effect is pleasant enough, so maybe I need to look at how I look at these images (maybe it's because I don't feel you've overdone it, which is how I often see these kinds of images).

When I saw the thumb of this I thought it would be pretty flat, but as everyone's said, there's a lot to it. The blue does work here, but if you'd left anything not blue I think it would not have. I like that you only captured some of the words, which turns this from a picture of writing where everyone is focused mainly on the words, to an image that includes some words for interest (even though we can tell what it said). Good start to the challenge.

Excellent on so many levels; choice of subject, focus, composition, lighting. The border works well with the subject. I wonder if you intentionally set it to be off-center just the tiniest bit? Tiny bit of space on the left prong before the frame, while the right prong comes off the right frame just a tad. I don't dislike it or think it really takes away from the shot, I'm just curious if it was intended or just happened?

Nice capture here, with good focus on the eyes, and sharpness in the fur and the whiskers (whiskers can be the bane of sharpness's existence for cats -- they go all jaggy if you try to sharpen them -- but here you've handled them well). Good start!

Good start to the challenge; you've captured the natural lighting well, and there's lots of interest to the image from the lines, the keys and the handle/lock.
