| 09/09/2007 02:43:17 AM | Pinkby NikonJebComment: You've gotten the technical critiques you need, so I'll just say I want to float across the landscape you've shown us, gently and slowly on a soft summer breeze. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 09/05/2007 02:36:26 PM | Turinby skewsmeComment: Depth of field is perfect for what you were presenting us with here. It forces one to look, and look deeper, but still many people didn't (and won't) get it. It's a bit scary, that face hidden in the flower, actually; maybe when we die we all get reborn as flowers . . . Excellent capture. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 09/05/2007 06:13:17 AM | ...by any other name, would smell as sweetby KelliComment: Around us, every day, are scenes of art, of beauty, of life. Some people never see them. Others see them, but cannot convey that beauty to others. Still others see them and can help the rest of us to see them, as they are. And then, a few, just a few, can see beauty where it is hidden, deep within the mundane, or the popular, and can bring that beauty to us, can find it hidden deep in the metal, or the grime, or the plastic that fills that our daily lives. You are one of these people. Wonderfully found and presented. Horribly under-appreciated. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 09/05/2007 04:24:54 AM | Just Ducky (NIDO)by colorcarnivalComment: This made me smile, which I think was a large part of the point. Images with similar shades and tones are difficult, because contrast is written out almost by the definition of the image. You've done a good job here, with a feeling of depth to the pile captured in the darkness or shadows that appear here and there. Fun. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 09/05/2007 04:22:49 AM | Blueby quiet_observationComment: From pre-historic times to today, there has been (and is) an incessant need for man and woman to leave their mark, to draw an image of an elk or a tiger, and then later, to leave a part of themselves through a name, something that cries out, "I was here, I existed, see me," an almost desperate plea for the future to remember us, without which maybe we never existed at all. So much of our lives is held in word and drawing, like what you have captured here, swirls of light and darkness, words differentiated from symbols only by context, by our understanding. I love that you saw this; I love that you captured it. I love anything that can make me think this much. Thank you. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 09/05/2007 04:13:16 AM | Born to the Purpleby levyj413Comment: Two reasons I can think of to do an abstract of a flower: to see up close what flowers are made of, all their "bits and pieces" as people on this side of the pond like to say; or, to look into another world, a place where no man has ever ventured, and will never venture. I see both here; an experiment in looking at flowers, but also a new universe, a delight of light, and shadow, of tones and colors, of places to rest (if you were small enough), of places to run and to hide, but always in fun, never for real. I'd like to live here, I think. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 09/05/2007 03:31:20 AM | Orange and Greenby jaysonmcComment: I can't believe you got so close to one of these. These are dangerous; I mean, look at those green eyes, the way it stares. You were brave to get this shot. The shot itself I like, the way you captured the moisture on the surface, in what seems to be some pretty bright light, without any flares or overbright areas, which I think here would have detracted from the earthy tones. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 09/05/2007 03:28:55 AM | Fork-tongued Janus of Self-desireby posthumousComment: This actually is Janus, trying to put his two faces back together, frustrated and annoyed at having had two faces, lying, never seeing things quite the same, for so long. He's figured out the key, finally, to doing this: the tongue. If he can just get the tongues of the two faces to touch, his faces will reunite into one, and he can rejoin the world unified and, more importantly, trustworthy. Excellent capture here, by the way, with so much going on for those who are willing to look. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 09/05/2007 03:16:17 AM | Whiskersby JuliBocComment: I think Jeffrey levy413 has hit the technicals, which hopefully will help you understand why this placed where it did, and I agree with all he's said. I like the idea that the whiskers are filling the frame, but there's about a fifth of the frame on the right that is empty except for the whiskers, and that's probably just too much for the DNMC police (I don't "do" DNMC, so I can only guess what others were thinking). For me, he's just woken up, and is about to go out to see whether those zoo keepers have done their job and gotten him something to eat. He's not growling, he's starting his morning yawn and a playful, lazy day. Nice. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
