Collections - Eye for Coloursby sangeethComment: Hi from the Critique Club.
This is a nicely done picture, paying homage to Manny's original.
Composition: My first reaction is dislike of the reflection of the sky and the pencils in the mirror. It seems as if the multiple pencil reflections distract from the clean look of your copy when compared to the original. The blue sky alone with the pencils would have been OK IMO. The pencils are well placed, and rule of thirds composition is followed nicely. The colors are nice, as other stated.
Technicals: The lighting seems harsh to my eyes. The addition of some diffusion material may have helped. Also, this may be my monitor, but there appears to be a reddish cast to the sharpened ends of each pencil. This tint detracts from the nice colors of the pencils and causes the colored points to be lost. I would have liked to see the natural wood of the pencils contrasted against the color of their tips. Possibly a little oversharpened in post processing IMO as there appears to be some fringing on some of the edge pixels.
Challenge: Yours was a nice score in high-scoring challenge and it paid proper homage to the original. Good job!
If you have any questions please PM me. Keep shooting!

Six Pack Abs (of Budweiser)by fotomann_foreverComment: Hi from the Critique Club
Leroy, you had the chance to critique a landscape of mine, and did a fine job I might add, now its my turn :)
First impression: Not visually appealing(to me) but technically good. I vaguely remember the picture you are payed homage to.
Technically: As stated, good. You know your stuff with lighting, focus, etc. etc. Good job on the lighting gradient from lower left to upper right. IN short(s), good technicals.
Composition and subject matter: Im sure the diagonals created in this image were purposful. Water a good touch. Subject not as appealing to the general public as much as say...a flower, a child, or a solitary water drop :)
Challenge: The picture is funny, probably the reaction you wanted judging by some of your various pictures scattered around DPC. Here is where I would take comfort in your score: it was a very high scoring picture to land on the back page of a challenge! 4.798 puts a person near the middle of the pack in many challenges. So, take solace in that fact.
anyway, keep it lively!

Tribute to Sonifo's "Dainty Gem" by manic35Comment: Hi from the Critique Club:
OUch! First Joey Lawrence's "shadow" ribbon winner, now a classic, ribbon winning, retake of a site favorite. Here goes :)
First impression: Beautiful picture, the child is beautiful, the colors and texture of her dress contrasting nicely with the rugged wall. Lovely picture.
Technically I find your photo superb, with great skin tones, vibrant colors, sharpness, etc. etc. All of the qualities which are the foundation of a great pic. The only nitpic I have is the shadow area surrounding her left eye. it would be nice to have just a little more clarity around her eye. Her hands are also natural, not classically posed, which is one more reason to love this pic.
The feeling of your picture is also superb. The girl has such a pensive/thoughtful expression that it forces the viewer to wonder either what she is thinking or if something is wrong, giving the viewer a connection to the child.
As it relates to the challenge...you took a very good ribbon winner and represented your own version very well. Perfect choice of photo and perfect treatment.
Any questions?? Just PM me. good luck in the future.
