Boating and Bikingby skiefComment: *Critique Club*
Boating and Biking is another interesting piece in the Best of 2005. I think this was an extremely tough challenge since there were 829 submission, and because of this a lot of piece did not get the attention they should.
I really like the overall composition of your shot,it is a subdued but warm shot. The subject and shot have a great sense of summer and all the pleasure and simplifies of being young. The yellow flowers give the shot extra attention, if they were not included I think viewers might over look it. I think I would try differnt cropping to see if it enhances the shot or takes too much of the subject away. I think the shapes give a great feel and even flow to the shot. Good work. Strongby dsherwinComment: *Critique Club*
Strong is a good choice for the Wildlife Challenge and I am very glad to see you did not just take a shot at a zoo, you should receive points for that alone. I can defiantly tell you were trying to have the focus be the gull and its expression. I think this was a hard shot to take. The blue background in contrast to the white of the bird gives a nice clean image but not much to grab the voters attention. I think some clouds might have enhanced the shot, it just seems a little empty. The beak on the bird also looks a little over blown, possibly the sun was just reflecting off of it at the time but it takes away from the Strong sense. You are defiantly doing great for all the challenges you have entered so far, so I hope to see many more from you! |

The Enchanted Forestby jrjrComment: *Critique Club*
Ok I have to say wow, as a Critique Club member I keep getting these wonderful photos to critique. Sometimes this makes it harder, because they are so good, and of course The Enchanted Forest is one of these. I loved this shot during the challenge and personal thought it would have placed higher, but I guess people were looking for out of the blue fantasy shots. The composition of this shot is just excellent and the red glow is amazing. Very rarely are you able to and let alone capture this amazing sky color. I think your frame is filled perfectly and if you had cropped it anywhere it would take away from the overall feel of the shot. I would be extremely proud of this piece, you have done some more excellent work. |

The Dream of Niagara beside my Cityby lsmartComment: *Critique Club*
"The Dream of Niagara beside my City" is a very unusual piece. I would agree that the title is critical to the voters, if they missed the title they probably missed the photo itself. I think you had an excellent idea and a great fantasy for yourself. The shot itself is very interesting to look at. I love the color of the sky, I think it is one of the hard times of day to capture and yours looks great. I also like the poll standing with a light to give some more focus to the shot. There are a couple little things right on the top of the water line that were distracting for me. Yet the glow of light from somewhere really brings back your focus. I think you did a good job. |

Oh, the pics I would take if I were invisible...by notesinstonesComment: *Critique Club*
Ok I had to give you a 9, this is an awesome idea and great shot. I think all photographers have probably had a fantasy like this. This was one of the most original ideas that I saw during the challenge.
The photography itself struck me as though you were trying to give it more of an old fashion look based on the colors. I think including the background was important otherwise I personally think the image would have lost some of the depth. The composition is very nice and complete there is no empty space and the shot doesn't feel crowded. I also like how the straps looks so prefect, guess they were stored just right.
I really think you did excellent and work and if you had more time to edit you would have had the shot just they way you wanted. But hey 18th place still isn't too bad. Good work! |
