Don doing selective desat?!? MUAHAHA! The one thing I don't like are the three brown elements at the top. They look to orderly. Either you happened across this and the brown things look like you placed it all very carefully (leading to an incorrect impression) or you DID place them very carefully (but of course you don't want us to know that in which case it betrays you).

When i have tricky horizon like that I sometimes rotate it back and forth a settle on the most pleasing composition to the eye, even if the real horizon is then off.

I'll give you some feedback. I did not vote this high. I did get the "dead end" bit, but thought the picture was much more on the "documentary" side than the "artistic" side. The tree jutting in on the left; the tree at the top; the shadows acros the bears face; the stripe of shadow across the bottom; the fact he's not looking at the camera, all things you are obviously not thinking about when you are just trying to capture a picture of a wild bear, but still detrimental to the photo nonetheless.
