Give me one of those cold light drinks, please...by
fededecbaComment: I like this shot very much and think it is very creative. The cool tones really add to the mood. Now i don't know why you got all of those 1's, 2's, and 3's (maybe people DID think it was a glass :( ), but I think there are some improvements that be made to take this image to the 'next level', so to speak.
For starters, the little black triangle in the bottom left could be a kiss of death, as images of this type (set-up images, non-candids... anything where you have complete control over the scene) need to be PERFECT to score well on DPC (as well as in real life, i'm told), and any flaws will detract from the final score depending on how obvious they are and how much they affect the image.
Second, there is noise in the image. Shooting in low light does this, and it detracts from the polished final look that these sort of commercial, set-up images need. Running this through a program such as Neat Image might remedy this, smooth out those blue tones.
Lastly, the image is a tad soft. This could be due to a number of reason. Maybe the image needs some sharpening? I did not see 'Unsharp-Mask" on your editing steps, but that is usually a crucial step to tighten up the main lines in the image after resizing and before saving for web. Check out a tutorial or search the forums if you're not familiar with this. Or maybe thats what you wanted, b/c you applied gaussian blur to the image... I dunno. But the base just seems a bit muddy, I think that will detract from your score a bit.
In sum, I think this is a great, creative shot and I really enjoy looking at it. But if you're going the route of a 'set-up' shot like this - meaning indoors, controlled lighting, etc..., it has to be PERFECT to do well on this site (for better or worse :/), or else the mob mentality will kill you if its not. And just cause they killed you doesn't mean you shouldn't be proud of the image, you should be, that's just the way things go around here.
