An Old Rugged Crossby kmbr2001Comment: Great shot! I love the angle and the brown/sepia tone. Since this was an advanced editing challenge, I think you could have fixed the spot in the sky (left of cross), and maybe cleared some of the noise on the right, but otherwise very very nice! |

Woodrow Sr and Jr on the Boardwalk...by DiComment: I think this is a neat idea but the ship in the background is TOO blurred. It actually makes me want to avert my eyes. Other than that, I think your concept is fantastic. |

otherwood.jpgby totaldisComment: Posting comments as asked for in the "Wooden" thread.
If this were posted as a challenge entry, I would probably give it a 4. It's a fairly mundane subject, so something needs to happen to make it more interesting to the viewer. Keep in mind, it's just a knot of wood, so you need to approach it in a way that catches the viewer's attention.
From a technical perspective, your DOF is too shallow, causing the knot to be the only thing in focus. I think the shot would be more "dramatic" if everything were in sharp focus.
Some insight into how I vote (and probably not so different from a lot of others):
Starting out: 5
--Technical issues: -1 (for focus)
--Composition: 0 (It's not bad, but it's not eye-catching either)
--Subjective Interest: 0 (this subject simply is what it is, there's nothing terribly fascinating about it)
I hope this helps. Message edited by author 2005-07-25 11:12:40. |

Neglected Doorby jrsnowComment: I think the fact that the subject of your photo (according to the title) is out of focus is a bit odd. The fact that the tree almost entirely obscures it (and dominates the photo) is odd, too. |

Hey Bearby BigMoComment: This is an image with a lot of potential. The flash (or whatever light that is) is a pretty big detractor, as is the lack of clarity. The composition is great, as is the bokeh. I think a little sharpening and less glare would raise your final score a couple points. |

Painted Barnby mikalaComment: For a painted barn it sure seems to be lacking paint! Not that I'm counting you down for that. It's a pretty picture. |

They Were my Brothersby ArtysteComment: I swore I'd vote poorly for all woodie photos, but this is great. It's really funny and well done, too. 7 |

Still Lifeby dahkotaComment: This is such a bizarre photo. The person walking away from the viewer is nearly invisible except for the hat. I really had to look to realize the person was really there. I think it must be the pattern on her blouse that gives the illusion of translucency. I'm sure that wasn't the intent. Anyway, nice photo, it makes you think. |

Poker Faceby CorySmithComment: I liked your photographer's comments (about not looking at the signs). My visits go like that, too:
Me: "Wow, hold on, I'm going to take a picture"
Wife: "What is it?"
Me: "I dunno, I just think it looks cool"

waterfall-blue-copy.jpgby amberComment: This is really beautiful. I can't believe it's only been looked at 17 times. It's the type of B&W shot I've been unsuccessfully trying to achieve. Added to favorites.
Ed: It would be nice if you posted your EXIF data (exposure info). Message edited by author 2005-07-25 01:12:55. |
