Primary Transportationby MaxCrashComment: I looked at this picture for a long time and the more I looked at it, the more I started to like it. While the shoes are out of focus, the object in the background is...I can't quite figure out exactly what it is. I'm thinking perhaps part of a stadium seat. Am I right or even close? I'm trying to think of a symbolic reasoning for the shoes to be OOF, but can't quite put my finger on it. Perhaps they are set aside for some activity that can't be seen beyond the "seat". I'm not sure if you meant the picture to be grainy, but I think if it were cleaned up, it would look a lot better. A program called Neat Image would clean that up nicely. A free demo is available on the internet for download, if you are interested. In any event, for my peaked interest in this photo, I gave you a 6. Good luck in the challenge. |

A true Rocky Mountain High.by vtruanComment: Nice balloon picture. The sky is just a little overly bright. The only possible way, I suppose to improve this would have been to get between the balloon and the sun more. Of course, then you are at the wrong angle to get the Colorado symbol (I wonder if people will realize that this is representative of the Colorado flag, therefore understanding the title of your picture). It's just a catch 22. Another thought, you might want to consider using Neat Image on this photo. It's a program that would clean up the noise that you see in the balloon. It's a good program and you can download a demo for free off the internet. Good positioning of the balloon in your picture and it is framed well. 7 Good luck in the challenge. |

Hitching a Rideby PaigeComment: I really like the take on the challenge and the angle at which you took this shot. I'm not sure that the forgotten toy adds anything to the subject. I would prefer that it had been left out. Beside that, the bike or trike is nicely framed in the picture, focus is good, and makes for a nice B&W. The way the handle bars are framed in the picture, add nice dimension. Good shot. Good luck in the challenge. |

Brother Heronby carlosmComment: This is a good attempt at a still action shot. However, the entire bird is blurry. A faster shutter speed would take the blurr out. Do you have manual controls on your camera. If you have sufficient light on your subject (here, the bird appears to be in the shadow of the trees, so there might not be), you can increase your shutter speed to stop the action, but you let in less light. I\'m assuming that by being a beginner to photography that you might have been in automatic mode. If so, the camera adjusted itself to the lack of light by lowering the shutter speed, thereby causing the bird to be blurred in the course of his flight. Even if the bird\'s wings are blurred, the photo would be more effective if it\'s head, tail and legs were more in focus. By the way, I like the reflection of the bird in the water at the bottom of the picture. I hope this helps...I\'m kind of a beginner myself, so someone with more experience could probably explain it better. |

Streetrodby crabappl3Comment: I'm not into cars much, but the best part of this triptych is the colors. They are so vivid. The only thing, I think, I would have liked to see differently would be that the border going around the indivdual smaller pictures on the right to seperate them. That's just a small thing though. 9 Good luck in the challenge. |

Strike Threeby inspzilComment: Being a baseball fan, I really like this set of pictures in your triptych. It's a nice and effective transition of the pitch. All three are well framed with the pictcher's mound in the exact same place each time. The shadows are a little annoying if you are concentrating on only the pitcher, but I believe this set is to protray form of the pitch instead, so it really doesn't matter. My only wish is that the subject was just a little closer. So, was this pitch a strike? 9 Good luck in the challenge. |

ROCKem SOCKemby scab-labComment: I never would have thunk it, but this simple subject matter turned into a very nice, artful set of pictures. When first looking at it, the end pictures of the single "fighter" are identically framed in their picture. After looking closer, I can tell differences, but at least the angle is the same. There is some glare, but it's not overly distracting. One thing I'm finding interesting is that the red guy seems a little blurry, but the blue one is perfect. Does this have something to do with the way lighting affects red in digital photography? I think I heard something about that subject. Anyway, I like this triptych. Good luck in the challenge. 9 |

Unsung Heroby CreativeFlyPhotoComment: I really like this set of photos. Although I consider the pictures to be snapshots and not photographic art, the trio tells a story and a good one at that. The dog seems very happy, well cared for, and is definately having a blast in play. That makes me smile. The pictures, especially the first two in the series are slightly overexposed, but conveys the point effectively. The writing is just a tad hard to read because of the white outline. All in all, a very happy set of pictures. Makes for a nice scrapbook page. 8 |
