PooH BeaR $5.99by MotekComment: Hello from the Critique Club!
My first impression when seeing this shot was "Wow! What a sky!!" Certainly a strong aspect in this photo and really adds some serious drama and interest to the scene.
You've got a pretty decent ranking and score with this shot, but I know the question is always, "How could I have scored higher?" It's certainly an above average shot, with a lot of good things going for it. The sky is fabulous and the colors of the Pooh Bear give an almost "super hero" quality to the toy. Your angle is also great, adding some extra interest to the photo. I think that maybe a slightly tighter crop would add to that drama---really making the Pooh seem larger than life! I think that would add to the mood that the fantastic sky sets. My only other nitpick is that Pooh's nose doesn't quite have the detail in his forehead. Overall, detail and clarity are very good on this shot, but the focus is spot on on his forehead, and I think DPC viewers typically like to see that carry through either all or most of the objects shot like this. You also had a comment about a lot of shadows in this shot....which isn't something that particularly bothers me when I look at it. In fact, I like the look of the shadow under his belly...makes it seem like he's really flying. But perhaps a hair less shadow around his eyes would help the detail you've captured shine through.
All in all, a great shot! Thanks so much for sharing this with all of us at DPC! |

Miniature Station - With Lights!by levyj413Comment: Hello from the Critique Club!
My first impression upon looking at this image was a great one! The colors and the lights really stand out and all of the architectural lines really draw the eye through the entire scene. I also loved the miniaturized look of the shot. After reading your photographer's notes, here are my thoughts.
Upon first glance, the effect used for this shot is well done. The viewer certainly almost instantly thinks of a miniature scene, so kudos on that! After looking for a few more minutes, I started to notice some of the difficulties you commented on as well. All in all, I don't think that they really hurt the shot, but the walls on either side are certainly an obstacle when using this effect. In particular, there is a section in the upper left hand corner that should perhaps be more blurred...it tends to draw my eye away from the central part of the scene. However, the unblurred section on the right doesn't bother me...in fact, I feel like it gives me a nice anchor and compliments the walking figures.
It's a great shot and I think that the top 20 finish here certainly reflects that! I think you've really got the hang of this technique!! |

His Head Is All Stuffed With Fluffby freakin_hilariousComment: I like the tight composition a lot here, and I think this photo would jump from good to great with a little more focus on the bear's nose. I love the clarity you've caught in the fur on his head, and I think I'd like to see that extended all the way through. Love the lighting and the contrast between his yellow fur and the dark backdrop. |
