I love the idea, and there are some really cool patterns here, but I find the measuring marks to be much too distracting

I like the building. It is simple and it has strong lines. I agree that it is so simple that one is tempted to add something; but I don't thing the lamp does it for me.

Hmm; going for the ONE?

Yes, the zone system seems to break down when shooting points of light on a black background. (Even knowing that's the point doesn't improve the photo.)

Extraordinary!

A highly imaginative composition and exposure; a big risk that paid off big.

This photo may not win the competition: it is not the prettiest or the most dramatic, but it is one of the most remarkable in terms of skill. There are a lot of good photos in the competition that many competent photographers might take. This one took some imagination. Almost any treatment of this space and its photographic capture other than the one we see here would almost inevitably result in a mundane photo - one that might average about a 4. For example, the tree in the foreground perfectly frames the frosted or illuminated trees in the valley. The road, which is a potential disaster, weaves its way through the photo, almost out of site. And those little white wildflowers add interest to a blackened tree trunk - a trick which allows the photographer to spend a lot more conrast on other parts of the photo.

I absolutely love the strong texture of the grass and wood in this photo, and I like the way the trees repeat at regular intervals, creating a rhythm that paces the eye's march through the space. I cannot see a way to improve this photo; yet I wish for a stronger central unifying subject than a row of trees or a bright spot of grass.

I think I could have given one more point, had this been ironically titled 'Rush Hour."

I like the coldness, the emptiness. I like the fact that it seems so lifeless but that the walkway is evidence of habitation. I guess there is a very subtle 'surreality' in its existence here. And to give you the benefit of the doubt, Dali's landscapes shared a similar starkness, though they were dotted with melting clocks. In all, I think it falls just short of meeting the challenge (which puts it far ahead of more than half the entries.)

This is sooo subversive, sooo funny, sooo over-the-top. But it is sooo corny, sooo badly lit and wierdly composed. Kudos for daring to enter it. It is with considerable regret that I cannot give it more than a 3.

Kind of mirror's the ascent of this photo once I made the connection. It started at 3 and I think it will finish at 6 or 7 on my scorecard. What I don't like is that it looks like a photo of a stage set. And it doesn't have a strong link to the subconscious, IMO.

I like that the ladder appears to be underwater powerfully evocing the 'Ascent of Man' . It's very clever, and cleverly photographed.
