Monuments: To the Quick and the Deadby Dr.ConfuserComment: I like the idea of this photo. I also like that it's framed by trees. It looks to me like too much of the photo is in the center third of the frame, Not sure how to fix this. One idea would be to take a much higher angle. But then I was also going to comment that I think the river makes a kind of dead space in the middle of the photo - a problem which would be solved by moving the camera down. I wonder if there's a spot where the skyscrapers are bracketed by the monuments? Finally, I'm not convinced that color adds much to the photo. I hope you find some of this ramble helpful. |

modern mausoleumby BeetleComment: This is definitely one of the ugliest photos of the competition. Yet, somehow, I think this is exactly what the photographer had in mind. I imagine this will finish very near the bottom, but because this is the direction toward which everything in our lives is headed I must rate this at least a 7. |

mausoleumby hopperComment: It occurs to me that one of the great strengths of the photo could have been its strong symmetry, but this is broken at the edges - I think the camera was placed a little too far left. I like the live gargoyles and the strong texture in the photo. |

T. J.by sherComment: Nice choice of subject. I love the texture of the iron and the stonework. The composition is really good. And I like the overall effect of the lighting. I find the strongly mottled background makes it just a little too hard for me to focus on the subject. At one level it adds interest - it keeps me looking at the photo. But on another level, I ust want to give up because I find the task too difficult. |
