Desolation- deprived of inhabitantsby Dim7Comment: What a perfect subject for this challenge and I like your choice of black and white. I am not sure the straight on viewpoint and centred composition are the strongest choices and it might be nice to have some cloud detail to the sky but those are minor suggestions. A really strong fit to challenge theme.

Maverickby sjonniComment: Unusual colours and a simple micro representation of a larger landscape.

Untrespassedby dasserComment: I find this uplifting rather than desolate. Nice image though and what gives me joy could drive another to despair.

Emptiness by eslaydogComment: Though somewhat reliant on someone else's art I do like your composition and close crop. The statue itself is beautiful.

Desolation of Two: Finding a Vein on the Trainby ImagineerComment: I wondered if this was a faked shot but as I gazed at the undernourished arms and the filthy clothes I decided it must be real. That certainly causes a sadness in my heart that many other entries have failed to create.
Photographically the image isn't as strong, the yellow background is too bright, the light is bouncing harshly off that exposed upper arm and their faces are a little too hidden. None of this matters as much in this style of image, though I think it would have been even stronger were those elements improved.

Home Sweet Homeby giantsComment: Nice image but a little soft, I think.
Nice composition and textures.
I wonder if it would be stronger with her looking downwards, towards the bottle perhaps - looking out of the window at the light seems slightly optimistic rather than desolate, though one could argue that she\\'s looking at the rest of the world moving on without her. Anyway, that doesn\\'t affect the vote it\\'s just me wondering out loud.

Where no one can liveby russiComment: A nice example of an image with lots of colour and yet certainly desolate.
Though simple I really don't like the border choice here.

Lonelyby luckycharmsrockComment: Aaaw - I can feel it! Very pixelated though - is this a very close crop of a small portion of the image or simply taken on a low res camera? I like the blue tone and the harsh lighting.
