Soarby KonadorComment: Another evocative alternative to the patriotic and heartfelt 911-related images. This reminds me very much of Jonathan Livingstone Seagull by Richard Bach. |

Freedom - The Open Doorby Spanish_GreaseComment: With no disrespect intended whatsoever to all the patriotic 9/11 inspired entries which give thought to that tragedy, I am pleased to see this alternative interpretation of the challenge theme. I love the simplicity of the shot and the choice of such dark shadows, whilst initially something I wasn't sure about, has grown on me - this makes me think of childhood nights... wide awake when I should have been asleep and longing for the freedom to join the lively adult conversation downstairs. |

"Katyn Remembered" (Soviet atrocities upon defenders of Poland in WWII) (A 50 foot tall moby GolferDDSComment: A beautifully taken image.
And yet I feel the title is very detrimental. Far better (in my opinion) to put only the title of the monument, and add, at most, the name of the country. People can look up the significance if they wish.
I certainly don't think it's helpful to add the height - it seems to me like an instruction to the viewer on how to "see" the image.
That said, it's an attractive image, nice lighting and composition. |

Looking for pastures newby BlueDragonComment: I guess it's just that, looking at the image, that story you have just shared just isn't visible. I agree that there is sadness knowing that fact! |

lonely roadsby magnetic9999Comment: I'd say in some contexts roads are paths travelled but the title didn't seem to have that loose kind of feel to it to suggest it.
Perhaps the title could have been something like "The Road Less Travelled" which would be a rip off I know but...
Shrug! |

A Brush with Decayby moodvilleComment: Beautiful - such a vivid colour capture and the quality of light is so rich. I love the way you've focused in on the detail and also your diagonal composition.

Abandonnedby orussellComment: Very serene, lovely interruption to the horizon and that gentle, subtle cloud works well for me. Good choice to go black and white, toning seems a bit purple to me.

Looking for pastures newby BlueDragonComment: A great image which is strengthened by the inclusion of the two cows. That said, the scene seems to convey bucolic peace and rural life and doesn't feel remotely desolate to me. However, desolate is such a wide subject and we all have such different interpretations of it so don't take my comments as an indication that I'm lowering my vote for "challenge not met" type reasons.
