Inside outby PaulComment: It's a very interesting photograph. I'm not certain of your intention with the title, but the title is perfect for my 'first look' reading, which was that the building was on fire. Second reading, a heartbeat later, was that the building was merely extravagantly lit from the inside. Third reading, one deep and steadying breath later, was more prosaic but accurate at last.
I enjoyed the journey from the fanciful, via misunderstanding to comprehension. I like the look of the picture, the feel of the picture, the tonal gradient from bottom to top, the crunchy colours. I enjoy including a 'u' in the word colours. Lots of delights here. 7. Thank you. |

wormby herfotomanComment: This one soars above the rest conceptually and artistically. Plus it's very beautiful. If you are cutout then you were mistaken in your recent claim to have tapped out your seam of creativity. If you're not he, then you're a welcome marvel and I just haven't been paying attention. 10. Thank you. |

Remembering Dusty Springfieldby GeneralEComment: Even though I am not much inclined to want to remember Dusty Springfield with any clarity, this is a brilliant way to express your feelings about her legacy, and to drive a sparkling stake through the heart of the joyless literalism on show in this challenge. It really is quite a beautiful photograph as well. 8. Thank you. |

On the wrong side of the tracks by NeatComment: Very clever, deliciously confounding, beautiful monochrome textures and tones: a dazzling concept confidently executed. Hard to argue with that recipe. Maybe something here is a wee bit too much, but I can't decide what it is, so maybe it isn't. It's interesting, and that always trumps everything. 8. Thank you |

Holoceneby odriewComment: This is my clear top pick, from a Free Study that had a lot of very good photographs.
The Holocene titular reference is pretty well self-evident, given the environment and the symbology of the antlers, so let's consider the photograph as an object, rather than as a mere picture of something ...
It's beautiful, it's confounding, and it's an immensely confident photograph.
Symmetrical in every sense, and reversible as well. Turn it around, look at it in a mirror, fold it, rotate it, turn it inside-out: it survives every contortion, both intellectual and physical.
For the viewer who requires a wee clue to get started, the implied Mud Man mask on the back of the rain jacket's hood hints heavily at the multi-dimensional graphic palindrome that hides in plain view in this picture.
Those who wonder if a photograph can truly be serious, durable art would do well to spend 15 minutes looking at this one.
10. Thank you. And you oblige me to bring the Order of the Thumb out of retirement.
