Remembering the Old Waysby dsidwellComment: A startling point-of-view, and very effective. Interesting, too ... for people (including me) unfamiliar with the details of how these structures work, the foreground pole is a surprise. I thought all the poles would be inside? So the photograph not only looks good, it also stimulates thought. That's always a good thing. 7. |

If Walls Could Talkby TheresaAComment: An interesting image. Your decision to keep the contrast subtle is thoughtful ... at first I thought it made the scene seem a little flat and two dimensional (with none of the revolting 'pop' so beloved at DPC). However, there's a lovely tonal progression starting from the foreground arch, then the upper arch, the lower arch, and finally to the lower rear wall. It establishes a pleasing gentle horizontal layering effect that would not have been possible with a high-contrast version. Sympathetic treatment of colour - subtle again! Title sucks, but I suppose you could hardly resist it. 8. |

Old Fish Shackby KOKOCATComment: Cropping off part of the building makes the photograph so much more interesting. Somehow it helps the viewer to look at the shack in the context of its environment. Good decision. 7. |

Past it's gloryby BMacDComment: I like the grinning 'teeth' formed by the grille; gives it a nice rakish air, like a skull! There is no apostrophe (sorry; I'm uncontrollably anal about apostrophes). 7. |

Copper & Gobelinby messerschmittComment: Originally posted by kiwiness: ... Somehow this image doesn't really have the kick to it that it should though. The main subject is great, the background is okay, it fits. But I would probably have gone in for something with more impact to it, maybe a different angle or composition I don't know exactly. It just needs more kick to it. |
It's beautiful. Elegant and thoughtful. Understated and confident.
But maybe the best thing about it is that it does not have a "kick" to it.
So good to see a photograph that's all about the subject and not about the photographer. |

At the Butcher's by e301Comment: Back to say I can't believe nobody has remarked on the wonderful name of the butchery!
Such a wonderful, sly little juxtaposition all of its own, given the prim 'spit and polish' nature of the butcher.
The photograph looks like a still from a '60's BBC television series, especially as the two main players bring to my mind a couple of characters from that place and time ... the butcher as Captain Peacock ('Are You Being Served?") and the shopper as Captain Mainwaring ('Dad's Army'). |

Man at Bus Stop with Advertisementby Keith ManiacComment: Everything I love about really good street photography: wit, whimsy, charm and simplicity. And totally candid, naturally. So good to see photographs at DPC that are about the photograph, and not about the photographer. Love your work, Chris.
