Zenby TejComment: Sometimes I think Zen may actually be an exercise in ascribing profundity to things that in fact have absolutely no significance at all. Like this. Is it deeply meaningful? Or is it just simplistic BS? Are the colours important? Are the shapes? It certainly feels satisfyingly heiroglyphic! Plus there's the tantalising fact that these leaves are kin to those that cast the shadows. All things considered I don't think this image means anything at all, but it does ask me a lot of questions, and that's far more than 99% of the images here can manage. So that must be true Zen, yes? 7. |

Go Your Own Wayby messerschmittComment: I like the black sheep best here.
And maybe he's really the one Going His Own Way?
But I don't like that particular Mac song; sounds like Abba.
I prefer their song "Go Insane" ... the black sheep again! |

Judgment Incorporatedby RKTComment: Been away for a week & so I saw nothing of this challenge until this moment.
Having seen this, I really need to see nothing more.
Technical: This is a beautiful job of exposure and toning. Composition is ruthless; a forensic photograph.
Cerebral: Demanding and confrontational as usual. I feel used! (I so love that feeling) |

sevenby whiteroomComment: Holy Moley! What is this make-up for? Is it ashes? As in sackcloth and ashes?
Whatever it is, her expression is wonderful. But that's not all; a lovely bonus for the treasure hunters is the coy body language of the woman in the background. And she is precisely spotlighted by the narrow shaft of sunlight between the buildings, just for those of us who need a treasure map. Super Duper!
Whoops! Edit to mop up a syntax spill.Message edited by author 2006-06-07 06:04:08. |

Squall over Ullswaterby ImagineerComment: Beautiful tonal control, as ever. I've just got a very good new monitor ... it's photographs like this that reassure me that the expense was justified. |

Modern Day Colosseum: The MCGby hotpastaComment: Great image of the "G" mate, especially the top half, where the stadium lighting and structure against that night sky is awesome.
I've seen some great moments there (Summertime only, if that tells you anything!). Best memory is D.K.Lillee versus I.V.A.Richards, back in about 1981 I think it was. Modern day gladiators, too! |

Naughty Chris ... you know you should not photograph anything that's been photographed before.
Lately I have taken to listening only to music that's never been played previously. It's a new genre, really; I call it WTF music.
But I had to draw the line somewhere, so I read only those books that I have already read. You should try it; it's just like deja vu all over again! |

Homeby bucketComment: Stands out from the crowd for several reasons. It's not overtly about grand architecture, but it sure is all about man's relationship with his (man-made) city habitat, and I'll prefer that every time. The use of light is masterful, and there are plenty of small but important details to add spice to the pot; the No Standing sign, the portentous number over the doorway, the harsh steel grille on the window, the descending entry steps, the papered-up display window, and of course the despairing and lost human figure. Fabulous composition. Beautifully processed too (although I'd very probably have still admired it even if the post-processing was crap). 9. |

creating spaceby saintaugustComment: Very modern photograph (aside from the border, which is best forgotten). The deployment of the people is brilliant; you couldn't have arranged them better if you had posed the whole thing (which you clearly did not). The man in jeans and the man with the trolley, on the right, are beautifully balanced by the opposing corporate pair (one a suit, one a portrait) on the left. And there's a stylish pair of ladies approaching from the rear; will they also diverge and take separate paths as they get closer? Clever and original depiction of contemporary architecture/people interface. 8. |
