This is a very nice shot, but would be even better if the blacks were actually black. Just seems a little too grey. Interesting the tenuous toehold that the jockey has on the stirrup iron!

I always like photographs where part of the picture is outside the frame. Can there really be a hoop up there, in the street? Or another guy a few yards out of shot? Or just a wall, and this is a solo game of dreams? The other two men are indifferent ... city life, I guess. And one other puzzle: what the hell is a cheese steak? Sounds revolting.

Even after the desensitizing effect of all the banal jigsaw puzzle entries, this one still manages to shine through as having some substance. Probably because it actually is a puzzle and thus invites some thought. What a welcome relief. 7.

Never A Dull Moment

Easily the best. How could there be a better 'action' photograph than this great picture of some kids delighting in the pure joy of movement for the sake of it? Not going anywhere; not doing some tedious bloody sport; just jumping because it's the most wonderful fun-to-be-alive thing for a group of young friends to do. The fact that it's happening before this sombre institutional backdrop makes it all the more wonderful. 10. And an Order of the Thumb:
