BW Me 2by ScooterMcNuttyComment: It's very frank, this self-portrait. Reductive. I know you're a couple of generations younger than me, but I hope you won't think it patronizing if I say that I am surprised to find that level of restraint in one so (relatively) young. It's a very lovely, assured portrait. |

- - - -by krnodilComment: This is beautiful. The tones are lovely. The juxtaposition of the impassive logic of the wall with the delusory chaos of the vine is keen. It could easily be a photograph by zeuszen; it has that quiet celebration of 'beauty as aptness to purpose' that he revels in. But of course you do, too. And the thoughtful viewer can't help following you both along that path, given a few moments of contemplation of this photograph. |

joyby sigrun_thComment: A very lovely photograph made all the more engaging by the 'imperfections' (the imposition of the foreground shape, the movement blur, the various 'distractions', even the slightly cool color temp) ... these all emphasize the fact that this wonderful moment was not made for the photographer's benefit, but for joy's. Photographs that are 'perfect' are very often diminished by that flawlessness, and thus speak less honestly. Truly great photographs are never about creating moments; they're about celebrating moments. Just like this one.
10. And the Order of the Thumb.

Informationby skewsmeComment: Sometimes the simplest juxtapositions are the hardest to see. This huge abstract superstructure towering above the tiny human at the desk makes a startling example. It's impossible to just note the presence of the man and say "Oh!', and accept this image at face value ... it's too laden with figurative possibilities. If I were a writer (which I am) it's the sort of image that could inspire me to write a novel, just so this could be on the cover. I might call it Have a Nice Day. Or perhaps Your Call is Important to Us. Of course, there's nothing much wrong with Information.
I award it a 10. And the deeply dubious distinction of The Order of the Thumb.

Nevermoreby GermaineComment: The whole world wide, every day,
Fly Hugin and Munin;
I worry lest Hugin should fall in flight,
Yet more I fear for Munin.

Terrific photograph. I love it. I nearly always like portraits without eyes anyway, so the fabulous hair just makes it even better. |

Color My Worldby wildirisComment: Yes. Very nicely observed. Interesting how much more powerful this is with the presence of two figures. Imagine it with just either one ... it'd be nothing like as good. I think it's because the two make some kind of implied dialogue. 9. |

kioby magenmarieComment: That's a super-duper cat shot! So much more character than the 'formal' cat portraits we see so many of. |
