Untitledby Bernard_MarxComment: I hardly ever like staged photographs which is why I am so much taken with this one ... it first had to overcome my prejudices, and it did! I like it so much because it is such a wonderful little story. I think it's about rebellion. All the small icons of her time and her place are there; the baking stuff, the appliances, the phone, the pop, the dress, her grooming and of course the apron. She is the perfect vision of an idealized life. And yet, there is a tiny hint of something else; some simmering insurrection. There's a tiny wicked smile at her lips, and there's the slightly racy stockings. I wonder who she's calling. Probably not Dexter (or whatever hubby's name is). So I like it for all that and for its echoes of Frank Yates's Revolutionary Road. 10, and the Order of the Thumb:

Meditationby pointandshootComment: What a beautiful, moving photograph. Inspired composition, great tones, and gentle murmurs of light. Noble Capra (I mean the goat, not the photographer). 10, and the Order of the Thumb:

Degrees of Separationby IraklisComment: This is close to cliché status; the people on the train station bench. But you have avoided that, which is quite an achievement! The green is great (by which I mean awful of course), and the bilingual rendering of the station name is also terrific. But the best part is how you have arrayed your cast of characters. The pair, like bookends for an empty bookcase. And the solo artist at the side, elegantly slouched in shadow but with foot and hand picked out by the stage lighting. It looks like a set for a modern opera, and I won't be surprised if she (the solo) begins to sing at any moment. If she does, I'll bet the bookends are not moved at all. It's a wonderful little tableau, stilled but loaded with potential energy. 10, and the Order of the Thumb:

Pyramidsby mindbottlingComment: Nothing's new under the sun, even after tens of millions of years. Very interesting landscape (normally that's oxymoronic, but you surprised me). |

CFKby bvyComment: Ridiculously anthropomorphic. The building looks down in horror and embarrassment at the CFK so rudely applied to its belly. |

Impaledby BudyaComment: Very beautiful tones and a bittersweet fate for the leaf. It has a certain nobility, transfixed there instead of lost in the litter down below. |

Brunch at the Town Dinerby magnusComment: This is good. All that chaos and clutter, and the cool glimpse of a lower face in the corner ... such an intriguing interjection! |

No, it's unlabeled...by ajschelComment: Strange but absorbing. I don't know how this happens, but it's so appallingly familiar. It's a nice allegory for human relationships, isn't it? The choices are bewildering, some are clearly labelled, some open unexpected treasures, and some just let you jump out the window. |
