GOOD DAY FROM YOUR DPCHALLENGE CRITIQUE CLUB!

Dear Jennifer,

GENERAL INTRODUCTION

Thanks for allowing us to have a closer look at your photograph. It is a fact that on average people look and evaluate an image presented to them in 5 seconds. When we are given the opportunity to really look and interpret the image, that is when we appreciate people like you. And thanks to you, we hope to learn much together.

The process I deploy is first of all to look at your previous work and then look at the currents comments made. I want to have a 'feel' for the person who entrusted me with this responsibility. Only then do I spend time with the image for a critique.

The critique can be both Applied (To the image self) and Theoretical (Attempt to philosophy and theorise about the work). It is important for me to be able to describe, to interpret, to evaluate and even to theorize about it. If I can encourage discourse about your work I will be happy.

In the final analysis, I hope you can learn something from this, take something of it and improve both your skill and self confidence.

So, here goes for your image.

CRITIQUE

Congratulations on your placing with this image. Personally I scored it much better simply because it is a great effort.

Looking at your portfolio, I just could not help to feel you are one of a few people with a very natural talent, very creative with a special eye. Best of luck on your aim to score a 7+. Your ribbon is not far off, I am sure.

What I saw in this image is a very good use of the landscape crop. Brave, as the crop may not work in all landscapes, but here in this challenge it achieved its goal. We just had to note it, look again. And that is what it is all about, you want the eye to be looking and looking again.

The blue from right to the rich warmer left has such a lovely natural flow. It keeps the eye moving from one side to the other side but not allowing it to leave the image. Wonderful! What must also be mentioned is how the open sky, on the right, leads into the closed sky on the left.

The 'resting' cloud, the most dynamic part, is even more stunning, it is also moving the eye from left to right. Just a great flowing image.

look, even the shadows follow the 'rule', dark on the right, left just bright and sunny.

Quite frankly, I have no problem to say what I see, what is beautiful and correct. Under Basic Editing, however, you are asking the impossible if you expect any one to point out relevant improvements. It is just a nice, eye catching image.

You have the eye, the skill and a true, honest very special talent. Keep doing what you are doing.

Final word. You are living proof that the photographer is bigger than his/her equipment.
