I might have tried draping something over the chair and moving it so that there was a clear wall behind the head of the child - putting all the focus on the the child and the light. Instead, I'm trying to figure out what's behind his head. Another idea would be to have the light on a flat top surrounded by clear surface that would have accentuated the pattern that the light is throwing on the walls. But I think the back of the chair and the frame on the wall detract from the impact.
