the BG is too close to the subject and creates a shadow which seems to double the image gives the impression of lack of focus and makes me go crosseyed. crop a tad too tight.

Good photo anyway. I was doing this shot, I'd probably try positioning the pedals differently. How? Several suggestions: have the closer one in line with the rear rim (or wheel), have it as a continuation of the main frame down to the left or in line with the bar holding the rear wheel

This is very good.
A good photo that meets the challenge very well, but twists it a little - most ppl would/did go for the human face.
Just the right amount of DOF (a bit deeper would be OK, but not needed).
Well deserved blue.
