Alien Abductionby PhocalComment: Hello from the critique club
An interesting image that meets the challenge.
A familiar landmark that has featured recently in another challenge, whilst this has its merits I have to say, of the two, I much prefer the other one. This is a great viewpoint that fits the challenge brief perfectly, so well done on that score. How on earth you have managed to hand hold a shot pointing upwards for 25 seconds and still get such sharp results is way beyond my understanding. I regularly take hand held long exposures by means of string attached to the bottom of the camera but there is no way I could go beyond a couple of seconds and get these sort of results. Unfortunately for me, the shot is badly let down by the OOF spots on the front of the lens and all the blown highlights especially the one in the centre that dominates everything to the detriment of the well exposed parts of the frame. A great idea Ronnie, with a little more care in execution it could be even better |

Leaky Canoe, Raised Overheadby DrakeComment: Hello from the critique club
An interesting image that meets the challenge.
In respect of the challenge brief this was quite an appropriate find, well done, the canoe is certainly past its sailing days and of questionable value as a shelter. There are some lovely colours and textures from the aged wood and the pattern of the construction makes for quite a pleasing end result. This is one of those images that fits the challenge brief well but needs help through an informative title as you have done here. There's not really a lot more I can say, thanks for sharing it with us. |

I agree Eugene, why not give your birds the full model treatment especially if the end result is as good as it is here! Not only is there some lovely feather detail but the tip of that beak is wonderfully emphasised through the judicious placing of the light. The highlight in the eye also adds to the atmosphere and all of this against that black backdrop it all works so well. We̢۪re all really pleased you got the chance to submit this and we̢۪re also pleased you came back, keep up the good work. |

First Snowby johnfrComment: Hello from the critique club
An interesting image that meets the challenge well.
An excellent panorama, and so it should be with all those images! You̢۪ve really captured the majesty and grandeur of the scene in a convincing way, those rugged peaks poking through the low-lying clouds are a truly wonderful spectacle. And the reflections give us a double vision that is most welcome. Clearly a lot of time, thought and effort has gone into the making of this image, well done John and thanks for sharing it with us. |

Snake River ~ Grand Tetons National Parkby Ja-9Comment: Hello from the critique club
An interesting image that meets the challenge well.
A classic landscape all the elements all well presented for an excellent end result. The mirrored reflections add to the image in an obvious sort of way but what really makes this is the lighting it is defining all the important features well but also those lovely silver birch trunks are made to look so distinctive and delicate its a delight. I think the wisp of cloud is a perhaps a little dysfunctional here it might have been better to remove it completely in favour of a balanced scene? Another excellent entry Janine, well done |

Zoned Inby PhocalComment: Hello from the critique club
An interesting image that meets the challenge well.
Why did I know this was yours as soon as I saw it Ronnie! Until I read your notes I thought it was another of your excellent frog images. For me this works really well I love the dominant grasses that effectively hide the ‘gator leaving you to search for him, the blurred grasses add to the air of mystery. Thank you for your notes and your link to the write up I can feel the excitement of the situation myself, another excellent result, keep at Ronnie. |

mist at Fonte Veticaby HoghemaruComment: Hello from the critique club
An interesting image that meets the challenge well.
I can see you at this lovely location absorbing the wonderful scene in front of you and there̢۪s the challenge to actually capture that wonderful instant, I would agree with J9 and say you̢۪ve done a pretty good job of it, I feel the essence of the moment has been captured. You could argue that a little more light in the foreground to balance up but I actually think that would take the emphasis away from where it is on the lovely sunlit mist, the hint of light on the grass tips works much better. All in all you̢۪ve done a great here Fabio, well done. |

Arch over Cathedral Mountain - Yoho National Parkby CitadelComment: Hello from the critique club
An interesting image that meets the challenge well.
Your positioning has enabled you to make good use of the arch and distant mountain combination and all this against the backdrop of that lovely sky. What an interesting arch that is, it looks very delicately balanced, in terms of size I suspect that its much smaller than we are led to believe here? What I like most about the image is the lovely tonal range, it works very well. To be honest, the more I look at it the simpler I wish the composition was so that we could enjoy that wonderful sky for its own sake. An excellent entry Craig, well done. |

Lake Eolaby Ja-9Comment: Hello from the critique club
An interesting image that meets the challenge well.
This is a fairly ordinary balanced scene that is lifted and made more special by the lovely light. That same light, however, is also a hindrance in the way it dominates and overpowers the lovely water feature. It̢۪s rather a shame your position hadn̢۪t been such that you could have removed it from the scene and made more of that water feature by moving your camera to include more of the right of the frame but I can see from this position that wouldn̢۪t have made for a very effective composition. It̢۪s a pleasing combination of colour against a near-mono water and sky sandwich that serves to emphasise the buildings and their shapes well. |

Pattaya Duskby riotComment: Hello from the critique club
An interesting landscape that meets the challenge well.
I can see why the scene and colours appealed to you it certainly has plenty of potential. I think its a shame you didn̢۪t have a tripod with you, I do agree with J9 there is a lack of clarity throughout as a result of the hand-held slow shutter speeds and the high ISO, under the circumstances you̢۪ve done a pretty good job but, as you know, there is some tough competition here. I actually think you missed a creative alternative here to create a high ISO abstract with deliberate soft or out of focus shapes to create an impression. Unfortunately, what you have here is an obvious attempt to make the best of a difficult and challenging situation that hasn̢۪t quite hit the mark. |
