A Bush In White Sands by TommyMoe21Comment: Hello from the critique club
An appealing image that contributes well to the challenge
Wow! Just what an image should do to you, make you say wow. This is a gorgeous landscape and its because of its simplicity that it has that wow effect. The composition and the colours are gorgeous, the lighting and exposure are good with good detail retained in the whites where it matters and that lovely blue backdrop really sets it off. The green bush adds a strong focal point though I think this would have worked equally well without it, adding to the scene̢۪s simplicity. A minor criticism is that there are halos, not on the dunes but on the blue mountain sky junction, they are not excessive but they are evident, apart from this the image is lovely. Congratulations Tom on your splendid score and result for a truly splendid image. |

Buffalo River National Forestby CyrildaComment: Hello from the critique club
An interesting image that contributes to the challenge
A fairly standard image of a fairly standard scene that lacks a strong focal point which is why, I assume, you have added the butterflies? Unfortunately, the butterflies are not at all convincing to the extent that they detract more than they add to the image as a whole. The colours are quite appealing but the exposure is a little on the bright side with some blown highlights though not excessive. Sorry Susie if my critique sounds a little harsh it is intended to be honest and helpful. |

Where's Waldoby Dr.ConfuserComment: Hello from the critique club
An appealing image that contributes well to the challenge
Thanks to your title we are made to look for ‘Waldo’ or else we probably would have missed him completely and because we find him it gives the whole image a sense of the immense scale of what we are looking at. The inclusion of the figure also makes the image a much more interesting image rather than a landscape alone it comes to life. As a documentary image of the power of nature to weather its surroundings it works well. |

Cornerby riotComment: Hello from the critique club
An appealing image that contributes well to the challenge
Great viewpoint and composition, a very striking image that immediately grabs your attention, especially the lighting the way it picks out the dominant corner of this quite attractive building. You have made great use of the viewpoint and perspective to create an image with impact, however, I feel there is too much space above the building, I think more of a panoramic format would have worked better thereby accentuating the receding aspects of the building and emphasising the corner even more. Thanks for another interesting entry Eugene. |

An appealing image that fully meets the challenge
An excellent interpretation of the challenge brief, the processing has worked well to give a much more convincing result than a lot of HDR I̢۪ve seen in the past. I like the speeding boat and its watery wake the diagonal works really well in terms of its position and binding that portion of the image together. The sky is adorable and I actually like the darkness of the left of the frame, its distinctive shapes work well in terms of the overall image. Another great entry Eugene, well done |

Conjunction Grapefruit - Wood Lemon Squeezerby clickodakComment: Hello from the critique club
An appealing image that fully meets the challenge
A great idea Marcel and well executed too. I like your composition it works well, the grapefruit looks delicious. I like also that you have used a wooden utensil it has so much more interesting character than plastic or metal, the wood grain and the way the juices are soaking into the wood work really well. Your lighting is good, the focus and DOF are good too. I don̢۪t have a problem with the white background its neutrality enables us to focus all our attention on the main subject. Another excellent entry Marcel, well done, keep up the good work. |

"Not Just Peanuts." - Jimmy Carterby RulerZigzagComment: Hello from the critique club
An appealing image that fully meets the challenge
A great image Anton and a great caption to fulfil the challenge brief. The DOF and focus is very accurately executed creating an excellent result. They are a very colourful bird that deserves the careful approach that you have clearly shown here, your timing is good and dynamic showing the bird in action as he feeds on the peanuts. The only thing that lets it down a little is that it is so obviously set up, perhaps just a couple of peanuts may have looked a little more natural but then that would make the challenge theme less obvious. Anyway, well done Anton. |

A good and interesting choice for the challenge. Your composition is very appealing with the padlock nicely off-centre and leading us nicely into the soft-focus locking aspect of the draw bolt that retains attention on the padlock in an appealing way. The texture and weather worn look of the wood adds to the overall appeal of the image as a whole. Well done Faio |

No Trespassingby clickodakComment: Hello from the critique club
An appealing image that fully meets the challenge
An excellent image Marcel! I like your composition, DOF, focus viewpoint and most importantly the timing to show the suns warming effect on the cold metal as it transforms these surfaces into something very appealing and detailed. A lovely additional element is the inverted scene in the drops. You have good exposure and details throughout the image having avoided blowing the background highlights. The suns rays through the tree are another very appealing element. I have assumed the soft focus background is purely through choice of aperture and not post-processing gaussian blur? I only ask because the immediate foreground looks equally uniform in its softness. Anyway, this is a very strong image Marcel that shows good creative vision and technical handling, a very positive progression, very well done. |

What an unusual window! Your viewpoint with the illuminated window behind has highlighted the detail of the bells making them even more prominent and ap̢۪peal̢۪ing, sorry couldn̢۪t resist that. You were right to consider this for mono and a good job you̢۪ve done of it too, there is a good range on tones with plenty of detail throughout. Well spotted Eugene, hope you enjoyed your time in Budapest. |
