An appealing image that contributes well to the challenge
Welcome to DPC Christopher, and what a first entry! This is a lovely study both in composition and timing. You have positioned the man well to the right leaving room for that well-timed exhalation of smoke to form a strong diagonal in the left of the frame. I like the mono processing it really adds to the atmosphere of the scene. It could be argued that the lights in the top of the frame are a bit distracting but the wide aperture has left them nicely soft and less obtrusive. Overall a competent and pleasing image, well done, we look forward to more form you... |

Ah Gord, this is just my sort of shot! I love the motion blur and abstract nature of the image but most of all I like the close cropped composition that focusses attention on the sheer dynamics of the motion. There is an other-worldliness about this that is just so appealing it works really well for me and obviously did for many others here too, well done Gord. |

A lovely night exposure. The lovely soft moonlight gives the scene an ethereal atmosphere that is very appealing. I do think it could have been improved with a larger DOF to get the foreground cactus nicely defined too, I have to agree with your commenter it does rather detract rather than add to the end result. Alternatively, using the cactus as a strong focal point with a softer background would have worked better. |

What a dynamic explosion of colour! This is an interesting composition with the red hearts dominating the right with all the other colours and detail of the left converging towards it. I assume you have rotated the zoom during the exposure? This usually works best where you have a strong dominant sharply defined centre but I like what you have done here with the off-centred composition, especially with the nature of these bright lights it works very well indeed. Wherever you̢۪ve been, I for one would like to welcome you back... |

Another of your excellent ‘gator studies Ronnie. I love the reflections in his eye and the duplicated and reversed reflection of him in the water. Whilst it is perfectly acceptable to use symmetry for this type of image I prefer it using the upper third with the emphasis then placed on the calm waters refection. Other than that another lovely image. |

Well done Daniel for your use of an explorative technique to create something unique as you have done here. This spinning technique is good for drawing the viewer in to the centred item of interest, this quite similar to altering the focal length of a zoom lens during a long exposure except there the radiating lens radiate towards the centre. The pattern of bright coloured lights also help to contain the centred attention. The choice of subject leaves the lower half of the frame less interesting so I think choice of subject is quite critical but nevertheless still an interesting image. |

Beautifully done Janine. Even before I saw your name below the image I knew it was yours it has all your hallmarks of quality about it. The colours and softness from the motion blur are both so very appealing. The lighting too is appropriate and helpful to the end result. The ghosting is another element that simply adds to the overall appeal. |

Even the ice queen̢۪s pensive expression still manages to look beguiling and appealing. I don̢۪t think this works quite as effectively as it could on a couple of issues, the main one being the bulk of that seat The strong white edge of the seat and that infuriating knob are dominating the foreground to an extent they are detracting. If I crop the foreground out on my screen with more of a square format excluding the lower half it improves the image enormously. Also, if your model had her eyes more towards the outside that would have been more in keeping with the mood of regret you are trying to convey. |

An appealing image that fulfils the challenge brief
You do use some interesting optics Eugene, or in this case, bog standard optics made more interesting. Its an interesting concept that has come out reasonably well considering it was a quick hand-held two exposure blend. You will be the first to recognise its shortcomings but the one that spoils it most for me are the blown highlights from the harsh lighting. Having said that thanks for another interesting entry. |

The fact that so many of your commenters did not guess your entry suggests not that you didn̢۪t execute your image properly but the exact opposite, how well you did execute it GinTay, well done. The whole idea of this challenge brief is to keep your commenters stumped and indeed it had me stumped too, I wouldn̢۪t have guessed what it was. Your DOF and POV were both well selected resulting in a challenging and pleasing entry. The aperture and shallow DOF proves what a macro this was so, well done in fulfilling the challenge brief so well. |
