Hello from the critique club

An appealing image that fully meets the challenge

Congratulations Susan, a great score and placing for a great image, thoroughly deserved. The implied lines are abundant in the lines of the trees themselves and in their shadows so suitably contrasted against the white snowy ground. This is a very strong composition that makes full use of the implied lines perspective. It all works in a strong effective way, I wouldn̢۪t change a thing, well done.

I think I can see what your intentions were here Marcel but for me it does not work. I can see that there is some potential for implied lines but you are so close that those stalks visible dominate in a jumbled way that does not suggest the sort of uniformity that would reveal implied lines. I can also understand why you have placed the cob the way you have but it also dominates in a way that takes away from any implied lines. I think a further higher view would have revealed the lines of plantation that would have more readily lent themselves to an implied line illusion.

I definitely wouldn't want to be on those seas! A great shot Drake, excellent timing you can feel the fury of the wind and tide smashing onto the shore and anything in its path. There is good detail throughout. I am actually amazed at how pristine these buildings appear given the constant battering they must receive. It feels as though the lighthouse has a tilt to the right, although your horizon appears to be level, I hope that wave is the one that broke its back!

An interesting image that contributes well to the open challenge

A great image Ronnie. Nice composition placing the bird in the most appropriate position. What makes the image is the lovely dawn rim lighting from the sunset. This is not the easiest of exposures but you have managed well to control the potential underexposure resulting from the backlighting, there is good detail in the birds face and feathers. You have nailed good focus where it should be on the bird̢۪s eyes. These lovely birds are quite rare over here in the UK, to see one at all is an event in itself but together with this lovely lighting is most unique, well done.

I love wide angle lenses they can be so creative, emphasising anything close to the lens as you have done here with the rope leading us nicely into the rest of the image. Again, I like the detail of the foreground grasses together with the rest of the land and an interesting cloudy sky to complete the picture. Your exposure is generally good but the rope itself is unfortunately blown which detracts a little from the end result, its such a shame we can̢۪t see the detail of the ropes yarn too. I think the composition may have been improved by using the rope on a diagonal as opposed to this viewpoint. All in all, a decent attempt, thanks for sharing Luana.

Your image certainly fulfils the challenge brief well Gin Tay. I like your composition with the curve of the river taking you from the foreground into the background beyond together with its reflections. The symbol that forms the main focus point in the centre is, I assume, identifying with the theme that you mention in your notes, I have to say I find both somewhat confusing but that is probably down to my own lack of perception. You have a nice range of tones in your mono presentation which works nicely.

Its great idea Asmundur and very well executed. Have the band seen it? I think they should be delighted with it, I can see it as a cover on their next album. I like it because unlike a straight shot of a band it makes you look and identify more closely with the individuals, I feel the shared passion in a more individual way than I would if it were a normal shot. I like your ‘studio’ set up too the brick wall and its hangings add to the end result. A great image well done.

Nice idea Marcel. The image is well executed with a nice shallow and appropriate DOF, the earphones work well against the music manuscript. I like the diagonal you have positioned the music on it adds a dynamic to the overall result. The mono processing works well and is again most appropriate for the image. A good image whose musical message is never in doubt, well done.

An interesting idea Fabio, generally well executed. I have to agree with your commenter I do think the image would be improved with a plainer background. The idea and the figure is cute, it makes the viewer smile which has to be a good thing. The shallow DOF at maximum aperture works well with sufficient detail where it is needed. The composition is good with some effective cropping and a nice diagonal it raises it to a higher standard its just a shame that the brightly coloured background feels somewhat at odds with the content.

Hello from the critique club

An interesting image that does not meet the challenge.

I have to show my ignorance here, these are, I assume, Star Wars characters? The reason I don̢۪t think it meets the challenge is because to me there are no gender characteristics in the models themselves and as they are armed I am assuming they are fighters of a common cause whose enemy is not also featured so again nothing gender specific. Perhaps I can be accused of being too pedantic here but I am trying to give a critique on an image that should convey a specific message about the sexes and that is not happening here, sorry. As regards the technicalities of the image I like the mono processing and the shallow DOF has separated the figures nicely from the background. However, that same shallow DOF has rendered the main figure̢۪ gun in soft focus I would say that it is essential that this too should be sharply detailed.
