Hello from the critique club

An appealing image that meets the challenge well.

An apt choice of subject Marcel. I quite like that you have tried to inject some creativity into the scene with your tilted composition. In respect of the challenge whilst you have met the brief I don̢۪t think you have made as much of it as perhaps you could have. Instead of showing the whole of the machine I would have probably gone in closer on the business end, the drill, so that you could more clearly see the man in his cab and with the focus clearly on the man this would have placed much more emphasis on the man and in doing so more fully met the challenge.

A great idea Susan and very well executed. The use of the ‘Siggy’ has worked well, especially from the low viewpoint, you can’t beat a good old wide-angle lens. The Flash has illuminated the scene well and your active pose really gives a good impression of someone hard at their labours. It all works really well, nice one Susan.

An unusual viewpoint that meets the challenge well.

A great perspective Ronnie! Your write up helps enormously in imaging the difficulties you encountered, well done in overcoming them with such an effective shot. Whilst I do like your unusual approach I have some agreement with kiwinick. Because these legs are so distinctive and because you can imagine them belonging to a bird with long legs there is a strong argument that they ought to be exploited to the full. If you have any portrait orientation shots it would be interesting to make a comparison

An effective composition Marcel, well captured. I like the colour and textures but what makes the image even more appealing is the timing and juxtaposition of the people and the way they are interacting both with the setting and with each other in your image. One very minor point to watch out for, your position ought to have moved slightly so that the background structure thats intruding ever so slightly on the bottom curve of the foreground could have been obscured. It could be cloned but its much easier to move position.

Nice one Paul, this certainly fits the challenge theme well and your handling of it is perfect, it conveys the bleakness of the location well.

A great interpretation of the challenge theme Susan. I like the creative ‘pixellated’ look you’ve achieved here, I’m also curious how you have managed it? It works well and definitely deserved a higher score for its originality alone.

A well deserved ribbon for another great natural history image that is up to your usual very high standard Ronnie, well done. The things that give this its impact are the composition, DOF and timing all superbly executed. Those reflections are divine fulfilling the challenge brief to a tee. Thanks for your fascinating write up, I̢۪m sorry you didn̢۪t achieve a PB but any 7+ score is a score to be well proud of, congratulations.

What distinctive birds these are with their spoon shaped bills, hence the name. As a record documentary image this fits the bill (excuse the pun) and also meets the challenge with its reflection. There are a couple of things I̢۪m not so keen on, its a tad overexposed there is a lack of detail around the head and shoulders and the other is the plastic pipe that just serves to emphasise that this is a captive bird. Given the challenge brief I would have cropped this image just above his feet omitting the ring, thus serving to emphasise the reflection and eliminating the problems I have mentioned and making it a more natural looking environment.

I like your creative and original approach to the challenge Marcel. The composition and timing is good with appropriate title and placing of the runner. The positioning of the chair itself although a little bizarre makes for a unique idea, however, I find myself concentrating far more than I should on the pattern of the spokes wondering why they are there and how they have been created and why the yellow of the road marking in them is so dominant? Its draw is so strong that it overpowers my enjoyment of the rest of the image, sorry.

Wow, that is one evil looking feline! The backdrop of the chair only adds to her sinister atmosphere. The lighting works really well, you did a good job here Susan, well done.
P.S. I had to look up Cersei Lannister, glad I did!
