Nice use of an everyday object as an abstract to create an interesting photograph. The focus is good and DOF is on track, could have been slightly deeper. I think a deeper dept of filed would of made it more interesting giving more detail and sharpness around the edges of the brush bristles more than just one or two deep in the photograph. Lighting is good and your photograph is definitely high contrast. Your composition and POV is good against the smooth background.

Very nice color as mentioned. I believe you took this picture with your 17-55mm lens wide open causing the distortion. The shot is nice but I believe you would of had a better picture if you would of used you 50mm f/1.8 lens and stood back a distance. That would of took care of the distortion lines.

Things I would do to this picture.
1. Level the horizon. I would level with the line below the text.
2. Sharpen the text only
3. First door to the left, dodge to make it as bright as the 2nd and third door at top.
4. Do a little (about 5%) dodge on the left steeple to make it as close in lighting as the right.

Nice shot but I think another lens would of rendered a better quality photograph if that was possible. I don't know how much distance you had to play with. Overall a nice shot.

First off you have a very nice subject to work with. The focus and lighting is good along with the background. With that said a few improvements could of made this shot better than it already is.

Composition: The subject is placed well within the frame but I believe the POV that you selected is to close to your subject. If you would of opened up the angle between you and your subject (maybe a step or two) it would of given us a POV that would have rendered more detail and light that would have possibly taken care of the soft focus adding more light ultimately increasing your high contrast.

Focus: Your focus is good but soft overall which takes away some of the detail.

Lighting: Lighting is good however I think it would have been better if the light had continued higher up on the your subject instead of stopping abruptly below the ears. It would have been great if the light around the edge of the ears could have been as strong against the background as the light around the face and noise.

Color: Not much to say there. I think you did a great job with the B&W mode. I had to look close to see that the eye was actually in color, great job.

Post Processing: I donĂ¢€™t know how much post processing was done but you did a great job. The only distraction is the reflection in the lower left. I would of considered cloning that distraction out of the picture.

Overall: Good quality photograph that a mild amount of tweaking could of made it great. Keep up the good work both in taking your pictures and processing them. I hope you find this critique helpful.

Another good shot. You are very good a macro photography. Wonderful colors and the picture defines broken with its shallow DOF. Keep up the great work.
