Here's what I think about silhouettes: If the subject needs front lighting to help you understand what it is, then it is not a strong candidate for silhouette lighting. The images that really work in this challenge have subjects in complete silhoutte against a brighter background. It is the strength of that division, between light and dark, and the story they tell which captures the imagination.

I dunno... usually a silhouette makes a much more powerful statement. Here the only subjects in silhouette are so tiny that they don't really matter...

We don't expect to see details within the silhouette. Darkening the image and adding contrast would have helped this image quite a bit.

Careful with the sharpening... you don't want obvious haloes around the edges (bottom of beak, around the needles, etc).

I don't mind the pink blob... :-) (close your f/stop down a bit if you want more DOF, macros tend to be razor sharp even at smaller f/stops)

As it is, I love how ultra sharp the bee is. Very nicely done!
