Somebody must have had a good contract for steel rods. The seagull lifts this one away from the aridity of some modern buildings (some are wonderful) but the parallel lines are indisputable.

Champagne pearls and a champagne flute. I've just commented on a picture which was all horizontals, and here we have all verticals, but nicely varied in colour and texture. I like this.

This is interesting. Rather melancholy parallels here. The poppy wreath around the centre stone takes away the austerity that would otherwise be evident.

There is a great horizontality about this picture. The jetty, the bank of the river behind it and the horizon are all perfectly flat, and fulfill the terms of the
competition. The verticals of the jetty supports and the lamp-post are at perfect right-angles to all the others. It is all nicely framed by the low wall and the tree trunk and branches. I do like this.
