Space-A-Plentyby barbaraanneComment: This shot has some unrealized potential in my view. Not being able to see the area above the top of the picture which may have mandated the crop I would have liked to see a different camera angle to eliminate the highway at a minimum and the power lines as well. I also believe there could have been some extra value in post processing that would have raised this by at lest 2 points. Its a great view! |

Railway Essentialsby KonadorComment: This picture intrigued me to the point that I asked a friend about it... This is what he sent back to me...
"The wood between the rails is to make some sort of level crossing for road vehicles or people. You can see that there are some cross beam on the outside of the rail on the right side of the picture. There are many of those level crossing in a switch yard to allow for passage of service vehicles such as pickup trucks.
I would guess that this line is in Germany. It is certainly a museum line because there is a steam engine (we see only the light grey back of it).
The German railway system of the 1930s( the Deutsche Reichbahn) had a large number of switchyard steam engine of the 0-6-0 variety in light grey color lined with black lines. |

Old Shackby JeremyFleuryComment: Nice composure here. I especially like the angle you used to get the contrast between the 2 sides of the shack. The direct sunlight was used masterfully to highght the darker side of the shack....good eye there! looks like rural Sonoma County. |
