Fractions of light

Fractions of light

This has a rather abstract look to it which I tend to like, but I find this image too dark. The colors which look like they are fantastic are too muted by the darkness, they barely get a chance to shine. The focal point, where the light is showing in the bottom corner does highlight that wonderful bluish green well. The focus looks good as is the use of space. I just find the overall composition a little bland because of the darkness. 4

Wow, I love the contrasting textures in this image. The vase has a real organic, sensuous feel while the background is more structured. The lighting looks great to me. As a personal preference I'd rathered one of the blooms be facing me the viewer. The red against the neutral is just the right amount of color to draw the eye to the flowers, doesn't over power the simplicity of the image. Well done. 7

Great focus, lighting is warm and not harsh like I'd expect from a spot light. I think it works better this way though. There seems to be a light haze or heat from lights in the air, this gives a nice subtle depth to the image. I get a sense of a concert getting ready to start, or having just finished. Nice photo. 7

Soft Light

I like the concept behind the image, but I'm not quite drawn in by the composition as much as I could be. I think the candleholder thingie in the middle obstructs too much of the back candles. I also think it might have had a bigger impact if all of the candles had that translucent quality of light through wax like the front two do. Still the soft focus works great here, enhancing the aspect of the light. The warm colors and soft light almost floating in darkness says quiet/hushed feeling or mood. Calm and contemplative. 5

Striking image. Draws and keeps my attention. I like the cool blue/purple choice in coloring. Silhouettes tend to add interest in most photo situations. I'm not sure if I like the trees framing the statue(?). It all works together, but I'm wondering if it might be better with a more open feel with no trees. Great lines, great photo. 8

Interesting! I wish the lighting was a little less harsh on the right, but I'm not sure that would be possible without losing clarity on the left. I like the way you captured the storm line. The rich greens are great, focus is a little softer than I would prefer, but the range of light may have made that hard to get. Nice job! 6

Wow the change in color tone is great! I like the fact that the colors are vivid and not washed out. The difference in inherent textures, mountain vs, tree-lined cliffs etc adds to the interest of the photo. Its a very dramatic image particularly with the bright light and deep shadows. I do wish the focus was a little more spread out, but its not anything that impacts negatively. Where was this taken? 8

Very nice sunset. I love the play of light on the clouds, though I wish there was a little more focus to them, giving them a clear line. The colors are spectacular. The overall image is crisp, no haze or unpleasant light rays/glare. I wish I could see sunsets like this from my backyard. Solid photo. 7

The joys of camping! I like this image, it has a nice story/mood to it. The campfire gives a great glow to the children and helps make the lighting look how my mind envisions a night of camping. I do wish there was a little more focus on both of the girls though. Also, the empty chair is a little distracting because its color is so vivid it draws my eyes away from the two girls (who I think are the focal point of the piece). Nice job! 6

Beautiful sunrise. The colors are rich and contrast each other well. I love how sharp the clouds look and the fact that there isn't any significant glare to be seen. Very peaceful mood, excellent capture. 8
