This is a photograph of repeating patterns - the incoming tide patterns match the multiple sand patterns of the oft previous tides. Those patterns in turn have a corresponding match and echo in the textures and patterns of the illuminated cliffs. I find this peaceful in its eternal continuity.

Comment:
The tones of wilderness Earth and aged stones match the old barn in textures and weathering. This is so wide, taking in such an expanse of land and an extensive if troubled skyscape. The one structure then calls back the eye, anchoring it firmly and the peaked shapes of the only manmade structure are echoed by the hills in back. Rustic, remote, beautiful.

Thundering natural power of this immense waterfall and you have captured it beautifully with the silken flow. The white and grey tones of the water contrast nicely with the left hand bits of brush and stone. The shapes and tones of the water are repeated in the sky and clouds. This is flowing free broken up only by the landshore in the middle to provide anchor. Excellent, one of my very favourites. The encapsulation of controlled force is magnificent.

Judgment Day

Judgment Day1st Place

Comment:
Great tones in this and great sharp clarity of the magnificent architecture of the cathedral. Stark black and white sky and the encroaching branches hint at a bit of a darker interpretation however, as does your title "Judgment Day" - and the person sitting on the stairs is waiting, dwarfed by the immensity and richness of the imposing edifice. Should the organisation of religion overpower the small Soul?

Small candles of rememberance, starred, sparkling, reflecting, repeating in the form of a simple cross. Effective, refractive, beautiful. The black background makes this shine out.

Multiple colours in complex repeating balanced patterns catch the eye immediately. This lavish building is slightly off balance however, retreating backwards - and what can be said of the significance of this? The sky goes from pale blue to white, lots of tones and shades surround this religious place, perhaps an allegory on a larger scale.

Broken Cross

Broken Cross

Comment:
This Cross is old and worn, broken, grey - yet it is still powerfully imposing in this excellent photograph. The stones surrounding it are smaller, sharper, perhaps more broken and littered with detritus of dead leaves, sparse grass, twigs, trials. The tones match well in this but are differentiated by the thickness and strength of the centre circle - no beginning, no end, eternity. Iota, Eta, Sigma - In Hoc Sanctis, in this place, sacred. Beautifully done.

Comment:
A white church, the quintessential symbol of organised Religion with the shadow of the older Tree of Life, indicative of quite another and older Celtic Natural religion, towering over it is a telling juxtaposition and a statement with much more between the lines than would first appear in a casual look at this. A favourite in this challenge to me - The chimney and the structure bear many straight lines, the Tree is curved and bends with the changing winds.

Comment:
A poignant reminder of Loss and Love never forgotten. The feather patterns and the cock of the head of the quietly waiting Dove are excellent and emotive. The tones of this simple photograph capture the dichotomy of dark and light which Religion encapsulates in query. Answers which bring more questions into play. I love this.

Thank you SO MUCH for the hearty Laugh I got when I keyed into this. An interesting take on the subject of Religion and perhaps one that some people would agree with considering the history of the various churches of the world seen in the context of Time.
