I think you did rather well to photograph a difficult lighting situation. As I look around the room I struggle to find the focal point. Perhaps using the open door and re-composing the shot to make that the subject by simply using the rule of thirds would have helped out. As it stands, it looks like all background.

the weird house

Very saturated colors her sort of adds a texture to the photo. The house looks like it was painted with a brush while the rest of the picture looks like a photo. Neat effect. I do see some haloing around the house suggesting you processed the house individually from the rest of the photo. Perhaps you need to be a little tighter with your masking because it really changes the light in some of the shadow areas behind the house.
