Sorry, I gave it a 7 for a great abstract, this might have contributed for your not-so-low placing...

Damn Judi, one of my favourites during the challenge. It's a beautiful silhouette and your scenery is just breath-taking.

Actually, this was my pick for the winner, the details in the chair in front are amazing.
Great work on the desaturation!

Now THIS is a great use for a fisheye lens!
It's just so hard to use it effectively, and this image with the title just brings it home!
Would be a double winner also in the Perspective :)

Congrats Neil, no vote below 4, awesome!

A great shot, but unfortunately with the wrong white balance. The pink tones in the skin could be corrected with the tweaking of the white balance. Still, a very good photo!

Hi Örvar, greetings from the Critique Club!

It's great to comment on this picture, as it was one of my favourites in this FS.

Gave it an 8 during voting, and you got above that from commentators, it's a great score!
And 6.8 in a FS is amazing.

Composition
It must be difficult to have such a great sky and use more of the lower half :)
But it was the best part, the ice sheets do look like a leopard, mixed with the warm tones from above. Great leading lines and seascape.

Processing
Sharp, sharp, sharp! Brilliant contrast, excellent gradient.

It was a winning shot, that didn't get the ribbon because of the though competition.

If you have any questions feel free to contact me.
Regards,
Joao

Hello Ankur, greetings from the Critique Club!

Regarding your shot:

Composition
Very good closeup, the expression on the man's face is great, the moment is very well captured.

Technique
For portraits you should keep your aperture to a minimum, f/8 is a bit much for this, since you had to increase your ISO to 800, and this creates a bit of noise in your photo.

Processing
The sepia tone is very pleasing, and the exposure is very good. But I fail to see exactly how it was done, because you made the white beard and the skin completely without details. I'm not sure if it was too much colour processing, but you can see in the lower end the white / greyish tone of the beard, it's completely burned. Also his nose has lost definition, that I suspect is because of the colour conversion.

Keep trying to improve these points, and since the sepia processing is harder, you can try next time to do a b&w conversion, the choices are more simple.

If you have any questions feel free to contact me.
Regards,
Joao

Hi again from the Critique Club!

I liked your photo on the voting phase, it really surprised me the way your bokeh seems like zoom blur yet it isn't.
The contrast is brilliant, I just love the way the trees dissolve into the sky, it's a very abstract shot.

I would have liked to have the focus on your hand instead of your sleeve, it would really help to draw the attention of the viewers.

The grain in the photo is very pleasing and adds atmosphere to the picture. You got a 6 from the people that commented in the photo (also from me) and in my opinion was a bit underrated.

Cheers,
Joao
