Doing Time on Planet Earthby RmacComment: This image has caused me to stop and pay attention. That means it is in my 7-10 voting band. (Voted earlier)
Additionally, it is highly interesting/eclectic meaning it keeps me here long enough to offer a longer comment and a vote of 8 or more.
This is one of my 8s - I like it. Furthermore I think it enriches the DPC collective portfolio. Put simply, I wish we saw more stuff like this. Let me tell you why it pushes all the right buttons for me:
1. The hewn from pewter tones and highlights.
2. The honest/authentic looked despite the clearly posed subject.
3. Great lighting.
4. The shadow detail exactly where it is needed.
5. The crispness of the processing.
Super portrait. |

1. Great use of the foreground foliage to add depth to the image.
2. So much to look at, the foreground children and guardian, the lone gull, the surfing gulls top left and the oddly positioned figure.
3. The lack of a horizon.
4. The sense of calmness of the water.
5. The sparkling light.
6. The warm evening feeling.
Lovely stuff. |

1. Great choice of tone.
2. Amusing in-your-face composition.
3. Endearing cow.
4. Infrared feel.
5. Great sense of balance despite eclectic composition.

1. I like unusual portraits and this is no difference - you've made eclectic choices here that I admire:
2. Your young but old (fashioned subject).
3. Your 'patchy' processing with subtle blur and smoothed textures.
4. Your willing to preserve the shadows in the eye sockets.
5. The gap above the tie.
6. The competing window.
7. The posed but candid feel.
Very nicely made. |

1. Great low fidelity image - lovely well matched tone and grain.
2. I love the iconic M being juxtaposed with the steeple - it provokes thinking around capitalist and religious doctrine and the social gullibility that is endemic within our world.
3. I love that pole on the left - random and stark, a distractor for distraction's sake.
Overall, a nicely made (counterculture) image. |

This is one of my 9s - I like it a lot. Furthermore I think it enriches the DPC collective portfolio. Put simply, I wish we saw more stuff like this. Let me tell you why it pushes all the right buttons for me:
1. The figure of the girl adds such mystery; from this POV I feel hidden, furtive, like we are on her tail - she's under surveillance.
2. I love the position of the sun and the cascading flare.
3. I really like how you've managed the contrast - giving us more dynamic range and shunning the temptation to silhouette the tree..
Overall, this image is transportive and effective. I like it a lot. |

1. I always enjoy the use of blur, especially where is has 'structure' - I see that here.
2. Great title, I'd spotted the monopedal motif before I'd noticed your title, so the image communicates very well.
3. Super toning - good choices here.
4. The sense of dynamic flow.
5. The foreground discarded cups - still and at odds with the runners.
Overall, a most compelling image. |
