inner sanctumby oldbimmercoupeComment: I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.
Positives : Fascinating scene - difficult to tell whether this is an art exhibit or people sitting down to dinner! I really like the coloration and the lighting glows under the large disks. The back wall texture and coloration is also very interesting as is the arched structure - mirror or opening? Difficult to say. I also like how we can only just discern the faces of the people in the room. Your choice or aspect ratio is bang on the money for this scene too.
Critical stuff: Perhaps I wish the red in the faces was toned down a little?
Overall: A most intriguing image. Bumping from a 6 to a 7. |

The Frontierby HighNoonerComment: I like how the scale of what we are seeing is thrown into ambiguity once we spot the Jeep. |

On the Bus...by NikonJebComment: I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.
Positives : I kind of skipped through this to begin with only to come back later to soak in the bizarre-ness of the scene. I do like the coloration; the interplay between the yellow and brown. I also like the way the foliage is so pervasive.
Critical stuff: I'm not so keen on the smooth tone mapped appearance. I think the scene is remarkable enough so as to not need quite this amount of embellishment.
Overall: An interesting and well made image. |

Distractionby instepsComment: I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.
Positives : I think this would have been a great entry in the recently announced 'unbalanced' challenge - I think it benefits from an eclectic choice of framing/composition; the slight tilt, the truncated shadow, the top centre subject, the dark torso making the image 'top-heavy' and thus unstable. Just as your subject is caught off-balance by the distraction, so you mirror this with your composition. I like the grain and toning too.
Critical stuff: Not much at all.
Overall: A very engaging image. |

My bridgeby AbraComment: I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.
Positives : Super composition, love the lens flare and the catchlight in the helmet. I really enjoy the arches too and the way the white dashed line guides the eye along the full depth of the 'Z' axis. The boy himself is perfectly placed in the frame and offers an engaging subject.
As I look more, other features become more prominent, the shadow patter, the highlights catching the mesh of the fence.
Critical stuff: The structure is so well shown that the boy is a little lost - perhaps that was your intention? Some may prefer a tweaked edit to bring him out a bit more.
Overall: A very nicely made image. |

Friday afternoonby ScooterMcNuttyComment: I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.
Positives : It feels like I could walk into this scene, I can almost hear the hustle and bustle. I really like the emphasis you have placed on the signs and how their dominance and scale to the architecture. The high-contrst monochrome treatment works very well, as does the vignette.
Critical stuff: The buildings are so prominent here, the lens and perspective distortion is quite prominent.
Overall: A very engaging image. |

Equus burchelliiby whiteroomComment: I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.
Positives : This is lovely blurry stuff - it would have been easy to have been tempted to offer up a vanilla wildlife shot but I'm so glad you didn't. The degree of motion and the overlay effect it has produced is fabulous and although I wouldn't have picked that colour for the toning I'm glad you were bold enough it works perfectly.
Critical stuff: Nothing at all.
Overall: Lovely stuff - bumping from a 7 to a 8. |

Positives : There is something about this portrait that is honest and magnificent - the intense gaze, the clinical background, the greenish hue, the general lack of fuss - its straight-up-ness if you will. The POV and framing too - perfect.
Critical stuff: Nothing
Overall: Sublime. Bumping from 9 to 10. |

Christmas Bluesby SpizzerComment: This is a great street scene and one I didn't fully appreciate in my first pass. Your exposure is just perfect and that choice elevates the image considerably. The light playing on the sax while the figure remains as shadow all combined with the colourful background bokeh makes for a really delightful scene.
Bumping to an 8. |
