luminous rendevouzby bspurgeonComment: I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.
Positives: I know this is yours Ben but I'm not going to let that stop me from commenting and scoring. I feel like this is a photo within a photo - the man sat peacefully in the chair, perhaps enjoying the light - that whole quadrant of the image self contained... then we move our eye outwards and the context changes - the darkness has us and the figure on the right take on an ominous presence suggestive of endangerment of the peaceful guy. It's like we're seeing something we shouldn't - a glimpse of a dark sub-strata of life that normally live at the periphery (even blind spot) of or perception and vision.
Critical stuff: Nope
Overall: Perfectly judged. |

Trinityby RKTComment: I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.
Positives: Fantastic composition, presentation and coloration - I normally have a real downer on object-based photographs (often a reflexive 1) and those with religious motifs. But I do like this. The symbology, the simplicity and the flat out confidence are all compelling.
Critical stuff: Not really.
Overall: I'm pleased to be surprised that I like this. |

Clouds No. 5by ubiqueComment: I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.
Positives: Standout contrast and a really unusual composition - I find this really compelling and highly effective. I'd normally shy away from such extreme highlights and adjacent shadows but you were absolutely right to embrace them.
Critical stuff: Nope
Overall: Outstanding image. |

Fahrenheit or Celsius?by jjbeguinComment: I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.
Positives: Wonderful muted coloration and standout composition of a compelling scene. It may have been tempting to get closer and focus on the figures; but focussing on the barrier and distancing yourself from the figures has really paid dividends. A long look really rewards and the various leading lines begin to overlay a really strong sense of structure to the composition.
Critical stuff: Nothing really
Overall: A sleeper this one - get's better the longer you stay. |

The Readerby timfythetooComment: I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.
Positives: Fabulous light, beautifully captured. Excellent clarity of image and purity of moment. Evidence that sometimes less is more. I really enjoy this cinematic palette too. I like the height you've given your image - plenty of (literal) headroom.
Critical stuff: Nothing
Overall: Really excellent image. |

Going Homeby TerramarComment: I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.
Positives: Extraordinarily minimalist image - I appreciate the vast negative space. Somehow you've managed to make me witness to an alien abduction - I like that image. The suggestion of a train tack going into the light makes the image feel slightly dangerous.
Critical stuff: Not really but clearly this isn't going to appeal to everybody.
Overall: I like it! |

Agents of the Orange Glass Realmby Brent_SComment: I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.
Positives: Gorgeous coloration and a really interesting scene. Although the figures take centre stage, I find that tree behind the glass the most compelling element. This silhouette presentation should look flat but you've managed to capture/represent the light in a way that maintains the depth of the scene. I love that texture on the foreground floor.
Critical stuff: Nothing at all
Overall: Magnificently constructed image. |

Everything Cracks One Dayby jagarComment: I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.
Positives: Signature soft glowing but sharp toning that has the perfect measure of the scene. A really interesting character and a most interesting backdrop. You really are master of the light though.
Critical stuff: Nothing
Overall: Masterful. |

big brotherby oldbimmercoupeComment: I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.
Positives: A very unusual presentation that has the effect of a composite (though I know it is't). The muted coloration works really well and the overall bizarreness is quite compelling.
Critical stuff: Interesting though it is; I remain unconvinced that the overall effect works.
Overall: Thought provoking and fantastically well executed. |

Edgeby spiritualspatulaComment: I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.
Positives: I really like the smoothness of this image. I also really like how it's difficult to tell whether the scene or the image is black and white. I really like your overall composition too and the slight vignette adds much.
Critical stuff: not much at all
Overall: Beautifully presentation of sublime scene. |
