Grandpa's Toyby itsmetenaComment by dsidwell: I like these old machines! I work now at a living history museum that uses them. Nice point of view--a classic one. It might be fun to try some new angles from which to shoot. There is a slight misty feel to this. You can try an Unsharp Mask with a large pixel radius and a low percentage and it will appear sharper. Nice work. |

Grandpa's Toyby itsmetenaComment by Commando303: I think the subject begs for a little "head room," but, that aside, I find the image pleasantly composed. A low contrast also adds to the feeling of "age" and being "washed out" through time. Overall, I like the picture. |

Grandpa's Toyby itsmetenaComment by puzzled: What a great old tractor this is! For some reason this seems cloudy, could it be improved with blacker blacks? Contrast, maybe? I like most everything about this (focus, dof, and of course the tractor) - just feel it's missing some zip which could be improved with stronger tones possibly. |

Oh !! But I do have a dark side.by itsmetenaComment by Skip: cute kid, real soft focus, lighting way out of balance. do these things matter? only in these are the first things i notice, as opposed to there being some candid storytelling qualities that make me look past the technicals. as rendered, i can't tell if you've caught a interesting moment or not. oh well. if your score isn't where you would like it to be, you might want to read this thread. |

Oh !! But I do have a dark side.by itsmetenaComment by melismatica: This is a bit to soft around the features for me. There isn't much of a catch light in his eyes. Either filtered fill-flash or a simple reflecting device was needed to fill in the dark shadows obscuring most of his features. It's a nice expressive capture but the image quality is a bit lacking for me. |

Roxanne or Dorothy.......Naughty or Nice.by itsmetenaComment by fotodude: the mirror was a good ides, but IMO the angle is wrong and the reflection of the black sheet shows all to clearly.
next time to use this affect try a long exposure with verry dim light so that the sheet does not show but blacks out. i used basicaly the same technique for my paint with light submition sheet, mirror and all. but the light was so focused and dim that it didn't show in the reflection. (the sheet i used was actualy blue also)
you had the right idea and good instinced. give it another shot you don't need much and this would be a really dynamic image.
also shoot from the front of the shoes so the heel and underside arn't so strong in the image. oh and try using glass in place of the mirror its not quite as reflective place it on top of you black cloth and the try you lighting just a desk lamp or somthing, you will be shocked.
GL and keep at it. |
