OK, I'm going through the Free Study submissions, purposefully finding those images I think are shot with a less conventional eye - this is one of those images! Thanks for offering something that isn't just DPC friendly eye-candy (though of course there's nothing wrong with eye-candy). I'll be picking one of these images for my Mu (most underrated) award:

Positives: Very interesting from a technical and artistic perspective. Is this a Lensbaby shot?? So rare to see them in colour and it works really well. So many good parts to this image, the detailed, contrasty bricks, the golden light through the arch - such a range it almost loos HDR. The really interesting thing about this image is its ambiguity as to the time of day - after all that could be the sun or the moon - I suspect the moon because of the darkness on the far right of the image.

Critical stuff: You know that I'm going to moan about the verticals... I just don't think you can have verticals this close to it without it being perfect... and it isn;t.

Overall: An intriguing picture which brings something a little different.

Greetings from the Critique Club!

Initial impression: Oh yeah, I've see those around here too, nice capture.

Technical: Composition plays safe in that it is very centred. Light and dof good. Colours are vibrant and attractive. I agree that a different crop may have helped give more of an abstract feel to shot.

Artistic: I like the near-zoomblur effect here to the heart of the pistil. Like the green leaf(?) in top left corner that helps break up the centredness and draws the eye away a little.

Overall: Not the most exciting shot in the challenge, it is quite apparent what it is. But your treatment of it makes it more interesting.

Feel free to PM me with any questions,

Susan

super abstract - sadly this crowd does not value the genre. 8.

Beautyful picture, BUT, an abstract image is not representing or imitating external reality or the objects of nature

Something to give these awesome clouds reference could have added to this picture and the intensity of The Storm. Without a reference it is quite abstract.

IMO I think this is to centered for me...if you had cropped from about the center out left or right that would been alot more abstract...
